Ben Stiller is Absolutely Adorable, His Movie Hilarious FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
I guess I ought to warn you first by stating that I am one of the few people in the USA to love the movie "Cable Guy" directed by Ben Stiller. That movie was panned by just about everyone. I subsequently enjoyed his move into leading man acting. In every movie he's been in, I think he's proved his ability as a comedic romantic leading man. They are in short supply nowadays too so I do not take his success in that venue lightly. With this film, he returns to writing and directing plus takes the lead role of Derek Zoolander, top male model. Derek is lacking in brains in many areas, although he can suprise you in other areas with considerable smarts. Although I generally don't like brainless men, Stiller makes Derek Zoolander work for me. The supporting cast is also marvelous. Stiller's Dad Jerry has one of the best roles, Maurray, his agent. He is LOL funny every moment he is on camera. The competitor male model, played by Owen Wilson, is also quite good. I thought I'd die laughing when Stiller and Wilson, in their dumbest character modes, tried to take apart a computer, expecting to find real world file folders inside of it. This all culminates in the high fashion show of "Derelict" based on homeless dressing in NYC. Whoever did Stiller's clothes for the Derelict runway show was a mastermind of wearable art. The coat he wears on his strut down the runway is incredible. I really can't imagine anyone's not enjoying this movie. I'm glad Stiller has returned to directing but not given up on the acting. He's at his best combining them both.

A refreshing surprise FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
No one was more afraid of "Zoolander" then I was. It looked like Hollywood, as feared, was turning into a factory pumping out one stupid flick after another, and it was taking Ben Stiller along with it. It looked like a bad take off on all of the goofy, dumb humor flicks we have grown to know and love. I was forced into renting one evening, and then forced to watch it (as though the thought of renting it did not torture me enough). Oddly, I found myself laughing throughout the whole movie, and it quickly won my heart.

Zoolander soon turned into a delightfully stupid romp following Derek Zoolander [Stiller] and his journey to find himself. The cast of supporting characters only add to the joy in "Zoolander", with people such as Owen Wilson, Will Ferrel, Jerry Stiller and Christine Taylor.

The plot basically simmers down to the following:
Male model Derek Zoolanders career is no longer on the rise, and seems to be dimishing in comparison to the "new kid on the block" male model Hansel [Wilson]. He decides to go in search of what he is meant for because there must be more to life than "being really really ridiculously good looking". Meanwhile, a fashion designer Mugatu [Ferrel] is trying to find a dumb male model to knock off the president of Malaysia, and sets his sights on Derek. Meanwhile, a female journalist [Taylor] is trying to help Derek escape the grips of Mugatu.

A great movie for a rental with friends evening, or a party, will surely get a laugh or two, even from the most cynical of viewers.

The many sides of Ben Stiller... very funny! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
Ben Stiller has been for quite a while now one of my favorite comedians, but I admit when this movie first came out in 2001, I didn't feel compelled to check it out. Time would prove me wrong. After seeing a few clips off of it recently, I decided to give it a shot, and how much I laughed!

To be honest, there were more than a few similarities to Austin Powers in "Zoolander", but Stiller went beyond that. Taking on multiple roles, not just as an actor, but as Director, Producer, Writer, etc. Stiller proved on this one that he's up to the challenge, and makes you laugh 'til it hurts with his incarnation of a VERY dumb male model (Derek Zoolander) alongside a cast made up of close relatives (his wife, Christine Taylor, and his dad, Jerry Stiller, among them), multifaceted Will Ferrell and Stiller's now-inseparable comedy companion, Owen Wilson playing equally dumb male model Hansel McDonald, Zoolander's upcoming opponent.

Overall, more than a good renter: a funny movie for a good 2/3 of its duration. The end turned out to be a bit lamer than in most Stiller movies, but there are so many hilarious moments all throughout it, that I cannot give it less than four stars.
