'Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?' is an excellent adaptation of Albee’s Broadway play. A four-person cast, a sober setting and a low budget isn’t exactly the recipe for winning Oscars, but this movie bucked the trend by winning five Academy Awards from its 13 nominations.
Director Mike Nichols captured Taylor at the peak of her career with her Oscar winning performance as Martha—a large, boisterous, with Bette Davis mannerisms. Matching her every step is Richard Burton as George, a withdrawn and repressed professor. Martha and George are trapped in a marriage devoid of compassions and love. Although weary of each other, they are unable to break themselves free; as it is the only reality they know. Martha treats George with total contempt and labels him a gutless failure. George accuses Martha of being flirtatious and indecent. One night after a faculty get-together at the college, Martha invites the newly appointed biology professor, Nick, and his wife Honey over for drinks. Little does the young couple know tat they will be caught in the midst of an intense exchange of insinuation, insults and belittling animosity. Not only are Nick and Honey sucked into the rage that George and Martha have unleashed, they also begin to find flaws in their own seemingly perfect marriage.
The enduring appeal of 'Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf' rests with the magnificent cast.

IMO this is one of the finest movies ever made. All four of the actors delivery the performances of their careers. The characters are developed, unique and like them or hate them every single one of them makes you FEEL.

By the end of the movie you will be exhausted, exhilerated, profoundly moved and possibly emotionally disturbed.

This is a true classic worth owning & watching every few years!!
