Excellent Propaganda for the Military! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
"Top Gun" is pretty much the best pro-military propaganda and recruiting tool out there, I wonder if the Pentagon actually paid for the production costs? The movie is entertaining, Tom Cruise is cool, so is the soundtrack. Yeah, going out to fight and die is soooo exciting and you don't have to look at any of the mutilated corpses of civilians, errrh, I meant collateral damage those missiles and bombs produce on the ground either, nor do you have to deal with any of the moral implications of being a paid killer for the government. It's all about boys having fun!

If you turn off your brains before watching this film it makes for great evening entertainment.

Mind blowing!! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
I've seen many movies in my life but this is one of the best. The action is mind blowing, the soundtrack is mind blowing, and the acting is mind blowing! Top Gun is an incredible film. Anybody can watch it and enjoy it. Did I mention its funny to? Trust me, you gotta see it.

Cruise becomes a superstar FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
Tom Cruise was first noticed in All the Right Movies. He became a star with Risky Business. And he became an action star and romance star with Top Gun.

Top Gun refers to an elite fighter pilot school. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Cruise) is a hot shot fighter pilot. He is one of the best except he is a showoff. When the number one fighter on his ship looses his nerve, Maverick and his second, Mack "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), get sent to Miramar to attend Fighter Weapons School - Top Gun. It is set out early that his main competition is Tom "Iceman" Kazansky (Val Kilmer). The boys go out for a little tail. Maverick meets Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood and she blows him out the sky. The following day a new instructor is introduced. It's Charlie!

The bulk of the remaining movie is about the training and Maverick pursing Charlie. He catches her and it's intense. They graduate but there is a crisis in the Indian Ocean and the guys are sent out to give air support with a real enemy.

This film was made at the height of the music video frenzy. Therefore, it is not surprising that it often looks like a music video. Its rock score compliments its action sequence. The fighter sequences don't keep you on the edge of your seat, they knock you off your seat!

By the way Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone is not only the best song of the year but it is the perfect example of the use a song to advance a scene. This should have won the Oscar.

Tom Cruise parlayed this role into superstardom. Unfortunately, no one else was as lucky. Kelly McGillis never made it past second lead. Val Kilmer decided to go with more character driven roles. Anthony Edwards didn't find fame until ER.

Look for a young Meg Ryan as Goose's widow and Tim Robbins as Goose's replacement. Like Edwards, some of the supporting actors found their fame in TV including Adrian Pasdar (Mysterious Ways and others) and Clarence Gilyard (Walker Texas Ranger).

This is a great action film and a very good romance. This means it's a great date film.
