Too Young to Die Reviews
Dying Young
Before he rocketed to fame in films like Thelma And Louise and Seven, Brad Pitt, cut his acting teeth on a few short-lived TV series and a couple of telefilms. Based on real life events, Too Young To Die? is a better than expected look at the death penalty. presents a tragic story of manipulation and murder that touches on the hot topic debate over the death penalty.
Amanda (Juliette Lewis also before she made it big) is a 15 year-old girl who has lived a rough childhood. When her stepfather Harvey (Dean Abston) abuses her, Amanda's mother Wanda (Laurie O'Brien) places the blame on her and kicks her out of their house. Desperate and very naive of the way the world works, she soon takes up with hustler Billy (Pitt), who gets her hooked on drugs and makes her a prostitute. She has one last chance break this harmful cycle when Buddy Thornton (Michael Tucker of TV's LA Law), decides to help. Ultimately though, he has to distance himself from her, because of his career. Thanks to a series of drug-fueled binges Amanda and Billy embark on a deadly murder spree.
Director Robert Markowitz does a good job telling this story. Writers David Hill and George Rubino present a solid script--given the constraints of the TV movie format. Everything though hinges on the excellent on-screen chemistry of Pitt and Lewis. Pitt has proved since this role that he excels at the dark stuff. But here is where those skills were born. As Pitt excels at playing dark characters, Lewis shows her skills at playing vulnerable, and the pair work well together.
The DVD has no extras on it...(No big surprise really)
Too Young To Die is a good film, especially if you liked Kalifornia--another Pitt/Lewis film made a few years later. Both recommended
What a terrible movie
The acting was horrible. I could not follow the plot, the story line was pathetic and oh dear lord those two never ever should attempt at hillbilly accents because they suck at it.
