Thomas as he was meant to be!
We just got this set today and have already watched the whole thing. We were so pleased with these DVDs!
Years ago, when Thomas was new and before we had any children, we used to see it on TV and think how cute it was. But by the time we had children, it had changed considerably. We still like the newer Thomas stories, of course, but nothing compares to the old ones. My favorite in this set is The Sad Story of Henry because it is just so funny.
I highly recommend this set to anyone who is a new or old fan of Thomas. You will be so glad you have it!
insipid, but teaches politically correct "valuable" lessons
Don't get me wrong: I want my kids to watch things with me, ask questions, and get something out of it all. It is just that, as adults, we get bored by appropriate lessons, etc. I have seen these now many times, and I think that my kids are numb to the "lessons" about whatever. Sure, they can get them, etc., but they watch this as time-filler relaxation - it doesn't engage them or challenge them the way really good films, such as Star Wars, does. Plus, in my worst moments, I still think this is just a step above the Barney inanity, which by living in Europe we entirely avoided.
Sorry, but this just isn't that engaging. It is a bit like WInny the Pooh, which we are so sick of that we roll our eyes and break out the wine when they put it on. OK, this is better than Rugrats, but then, Bugs Bunny is superior to Scooby Doo as well: junk is, well, junk.
Tepidly recommended.
A little dissapointing
When I got this for Christmas from my dad, we were really excited about this because we both are old Thomas fans and having them rerelease the old episodes when Starr narrated was what we had been waiting for. However, we were slightly let down.
Instead of the DVD bonus disk being filled with tons of things about the old series all we found were a few games and this commemtary buy Sir Topham Hatt. We were expecting things like, the making of the first Thomas episode or an interview with Ringo Starr about being the first series narrater. Now I know that wouldn't be very fun for a 5 year old, but for older Thomas fans and for parants it would be interesting and cool to see. The episodes however are a great value and have there original Railway Series names.
This was a very good DVD. My only wish is that they had put more commemorative things on the bonus features. Find the most obvious answer is not the best way to commemorate Thomas' First Season.
