Outstanding script, acting, and soundtrack FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This film has so many wonderful elements, from the funny little asides ("sir, you're standing in your pizza") to the lonely, still faces of the American West that the camera captures to examine against the wild exhilaration of Thelma & Louise's journey. There's mystery, too: what really happened to Louise in Texas?? All the performances beginning with Sarandon and Davis are outstanding, producing unforgettable characters. If I'm not mistaken, this was Brad Pitt's first major picture; who can forget his encounter with Thelma's husband in the police station?

There's a strong feminist theme to be sure, but at heart the film is really about freedom, free will, the nature of criminality, and restraints on human behavior (and the consequences of lifting them). This is inherently understood by the police officer played by Harvey Keitel, who is deeply concerned for the well-being of the two fugitives from justice while showing no compunction about roughing up the petty crook played by Pitt.

The icing on the cake: a GREAT soundtrack (available on CD, and definitely worth buying separately!)

GOOD, ALMOST GREAT. FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
As a man, I was really impressed with the evoulution that the two lead characters go through in this movie, however, I feel the chauvanistic husband and truck drivers turned out to be simply, badly played cartoons. Had they been better portrayed perhaps the film would have been much better.

Thelma & Louise is a great drama about the lives of two very different women. Released in 1991 under the direction of Ridley Scott. The movie is approximately 2 hrs and 10 minutes long. The two main characters in the movie are Susan Sarandon (Louise) and Geena Davis (Thelma). The movie begins as two women are going on a mini vacation for the weekend, However it turns into a journey of self-realization of their own lives. Both of these women have been held back by men in one way or another. The catastrophes are all caused by men and these women react in a way that they couldn't have done if they had stayed in their previous relationships.
Thelma and Louise are on an adventure to get away from their lives for the weekend. In a dramatic turn of events, the girls shoot and kill a man, rob a store, practice infidelity, blow up a truck, and discover a part of themselves in the adventure. The tragedy is, while the events that happened while on this trip were justified and morally understanable, they did break the law. The women run because they are scared of being punished without any understanding of their side of the story because these women have never been right when a man was involved in a situation. Thelma & Louise stick together through the whole ordeal until the very end.
I give this movie * * * * * stars. The ideals in this movie were great. It showed determination, self-discovery, and true friendship. This movie could make you believe something like this could happen, the events in the movie do take place in everyday life. These women could have stopped and explained their actions at any time, but they didn't because they were choosing their own path and doing what felt right to them.
