Pure Magic FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
I found this movie in a bin at Walmart for $5.50 and decided to watch it because I couldn't afford anything else and I recognized who starred in it. That was all. I had only slightly heard of Connan the Barbarian and I knew nothing of the author of that character. But loving the actors that played in this movie I gave it a chance. It was one of the best chances I've taken.

I felt many emotions through this movie. I cried through the end of it. I bawled like a baby actually. I was frustrated with Ms. Price and her stubborness at wanting a socially acceptable man. Robert Howard had his problems but I believe he wouldn't have been such a great writer had he been "normal". I laughed at some of Robert Howard's comments and marveled at his imagination. And my heart ached at the love between these two and the devestation at the end that you see in Novalyne's eyes.

This movie was filmed in 24 days on a very small budget yet you feel as if you were there in the 1930s experiencing this yourself. There is no sign in this movie that the director was inexperienced or that the actors didn't know each other before they began filming. And at times you wonder if the actors really are acting because it seems so real when watching them interact.

If you need one more reason to watch/buy this film then do it for the kiss. Sceen 15, about 54 min into the movie, you get to see the most romantic, passionate, intense, pure kiss in cinema history. I cannot think of another kiss that matches this one. All the feelings these two have been experiencing and holding back come out and are shown through this kiss. It's pure magic.

Caught it on Cable - big Robert E. Howard Fan FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
I had wanted to see this movie for a while as I am a Big Robert E. Howard fan - Conan, Solomon Kane, etc.
I had also enjoyed COLD MOUNTAIN which had the same two stars - Vincent D'Onfrio and Rene Zellwiger - but not in the same scenes.

It was a diverting movie with good performances and spectacular scenery. My wife wound up watching it with me. I do think that D'Onfrio overacted a bit as he was also the producer. Zellwiger gave a fantastic performance.

It was NOT much for Conan fans but did have a few scenes in which D'Onfrio acted out scenes from his writing which were interesting.
It is great if you are a fan of Howard, the 2 stars and also like your romance to be simple

Good movie, and I'm a Howard fan- Not a drama/romance fan FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
One of the things about this movie is that it inevitably attracts some fans of Howard's work who aren't necessarily drawn to romance/drama at all... myself included (I want "Action and Adventure!!"). Howard (along with a few others) created modern sword & sorcery fantasy fiction. His work has been mimicked and paid tribute to countless times. His characters were REAL- lusting, violent, Human... NOT the fairly-tale sexless creations of upright "normal" folks like Tolkien. His characters had both a lust for life and moral superiority, fighting the evils of "civilized" men and standing up for moral ideals. His bad guys were truely horrific (my example would be censored...). Howard was a genius and an interesting character, and this movie helps us to understand him a little. Cheers to Vincent- I think Howard was played very well and with respect.

Because of my high regard for Howard, I truly enjoyed the film. But not only that... The acting was some of the best that I've seen. All of the acting was absolutely first-class and the overall production was great. Because the script was based on "One Who Walked Alone" by Novalyne Price Ellis (the other major character in this movie), one can expect a lot of historical accuracy.

I think this will please both fans of Howard (and Howard's MANY literary children & grandchildren) as well as anyone looking for a great drama/romance flick.
