The Wedding Singer rocks! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
The Wedding Singer stars Adam Sandler as Robbie Hart and Drew Barrymore as Julie Sullivan. The movie co-stars Christine Taylor as Holly, Julie's sister, Matthew Glare as Glenn Guglia, Julie's fiancé, and Allen Covert as Sammy, Robbie's friend. Frank Coraci directs this 97-minute movie, a 1998 New Line Cinema release.

This romantic comedy is set in 1985, complete with big hair, Miami Vice references, and 80's music. Robbie is singing at a wedding (with a band member who looks like Boy George), and meets Julia who is a new waitress. Robbie is excited about his upcoming wedding, but is left at the altar. He decides to go back to work and gives a horrible performance ending his career as a wedding singer. In the meantime, Julia is engaged to Glenn, who is cheating on her, and Robbie is talked into helping them in planning their wedding. Spending time together help Robbie and Julia realize that they are also falling in love.

This sets the stage for a somewhat typical romantic comedy. Robbie wants Julia but she is engaged, and when she is ready to leave Glenn, she thinks Robbie has returned to his former fiancé. Upset, she decides to go to Las Vegas to marry Glenn. Robbie finds out and decides to go to Vegas and convince Julia to leave Glenn for him. While on the plane Robbie meets 80's icon Billy Idol and tells him what he is planning to do. Robbie then finds out Glenn and Julia are on the plane. Robbie sings a love song to Julia and Billy takes care of Glenn. The movie ends with Robbie and Julia getting married.

As a romantic comedy I would give the movie four stars, as most romantic comedies do not strike me as particularly funny. There are great scenes with Adam Sandler singing, and Drew Barrymore really makes the movie with great facial expressions and a great scene when she was hung over. Billy Idol, John Lovitz, and Steve Buscemi make guest appearances and are way funnier than one would think. With this combination, it makes The Wedding Singer one of the best romantic comedies I have had the pleasure of viewing.

Pretty good movie FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
It's hard to believe but this is an actually good Adam Sandler movie. Even though the plot and the ending you can smell a mile away, it's a nice entertaining watch.

Adam Sandler plays Robbie Hart, a wedding singer who wants to be a rock star. He's devastated when his fiance, Linda, leaves him at the altar. Things turn around when he starts falling for Julia Sullivan(Drew Barrymore). The only problem is Julia's engaged to a shallow, unfaithful man.

One thing that the writers used for laughs is our knowledge of pop culture after the movie is taken place. For example: one woman tells Robbie and Julia they're gonna be an everlasting couple like Donald and Ivana Trump and Burt Reynolds and Loni Anderson although we all know how they turned out. Or when Robbie sees Linda in a Van Halen t-shirt saying "now take it off and you'll jinx the band and they break up" which is partly true. David Lee Roth just quit/fired.

Adam brings in a good performance in this by not actually being kind of dumb. Drew is very likeable in this. Has a girl-next-door quality. Even Billy Idol brings in a good cameo.

This is a good rental, cause it will get kind of old on repeated viewings.

Remembering 1985 FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Adam Sandler is best known for playing basically idiots who sense of humor doesn't extend much past the bathroom. While he is very funny and great at playing those characters, he was painting himself into a corner. He really turned heads with his portrayal of Robbie Hart in The Wedding Singer. The movie takes place in a Northern New Jersey town circa 1985. Robbie is a popular wedding singer who is about get married himself. He meets Julia who is a server at the catering hall he performs at. She too is engaged and they strike up a friendship. Robbie is stood up at the altar and sinks into a depression. He is revived out of it by Julia, whom he then falls for. He finds out that her fiancé is a jerk who fools around on her. He eventually wins her in the end and the movie closes with Robbie and Julia marrying. Mr. Sandler plays Robbie with a sensitivity and charm that he had previously never revealed. You really feel for him and care what happens to him. Drew Barrymore is stunning as Julia and she plays her with a romantic innocence. The clothes, hair and set designs are all classic 80's stuff and if you grew up in that time, they will elicit laughs as well.
