The War of the Roses Reviews

It Was Never Meant To Be FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Countless times I've viewed this film, and in every single subsequent viewing I become more engrossed in the emotions, moods, ambience and factual themes it presents. Two people on Nantucket island meet at an antiques auction, one a prospective law school student and the other an aspiring gymnist. What an aberrant match, but it proves to be an impassioned one as they heat it up in a beach house overlooking the pier where they both were supposed to depart from. Flair and fancy impart on the couple when they later start a family and both look forward to life at home. The viewer is astonished to witness the enflaring spur of a realtionship that gradually grows enervated and exacerbated in conclusion.

It is quite interesting to observe how the Rose's relationship works up and culminates. First it is a mutual, even enamored one, and later on it expands to be one of aggression, pugnacity and dissolution. This is authenticity. There are no pseudo-dramatic subjects or concepts in this film. It is what is in our society. In some cases, couples grow apart from each other, serving as an antithesis to the stereotype that all couples and their relationships could somehow be mended with the right monitoring and attitudes. One will see that this does not apply to some people, and that the Rose's relationship was inately disfunctional.

Kathleen Turner, is no question, an astounding actress in this film and that is an understatement. She assumes all moods of a desperate, denied house wife; first complacent and content, then disgruntled, then revolting, and to result with the stage of pure lividness. She is a marvel to watch. Her acting is plausible and makes connections with the real world, and in turn, one connects her role to many other desperate housewives across the country and throughout the world at large.

Michael Douglas does a sufficient job while working with Turner, but as always, his abilities are really unparalleled when acting beside the gorgeous, the phenomenal blonde Kathleen Turner. Similar to all the other roles where this two-some of actors was united as in "Romancing The Stone" or "Jewel Of The Nile", Douglas is no where near as competent as Turner in assuming a role with such tension and thrill, and probably never will.

Kudos to Dany Devito, who through numerous occasion, had the ample oppurtunity to act with both Turner and Douglas in the two movies sighted above. His art of wrenching out all possible feelings, torsion and reaction perception are adeptly singular. This film must be his greatest work as a director to date, to which he deserves to be memorialized in some way or another.

To quite simply state the thesis of the film, not all relationships were meant to work, and the act of divorce is satan's war. Some relationship situations are diabolical, straight from the pits of hell and there really is nothing one can do about it to mitigate its severity or ameliorate it in the long run. Despite the popular nonchalant notion of couples habitually being able to reunite in supreme matrimony and be concilliatory with the right volitions, this film contradicts that fallacy explicating that some marriages were never meant to be.

Good for laugh FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
If you're in the mood for a satirical film about relationships.. Danny DeVito takes you on a journey of love and lorn. Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas show you what can happen when a good thing goes bad.
