The Victim Reviews

This is why Hong Kong cinema rules! ATTENTION: All fans... FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
I think that the martial arts genre is one of the best out there. I also feel bad for the people who don't think so, because THIS is entertainment.

The fighting in this movie is so "fast and furious"....(Hint, hint, America. Stop watching the Bull****. Ya tasteless boring people!! This is REAL entertainment.) You'll enjoy it very much. Sammo Hung is great people, take my advice.

Leung(leading role)knew nothing of kung fu before this movie...Absolutely incredible, this guy looks like a supreme fighter(although Yuen Biao is Leung's double for the acrobatic moves). Sammo trained him when he lived next door to Leung in Hong Kong. Sammo stated that as soon as you'd teach him something, he picked up on it much faster than any other student would.

This movie has a pretty good plot with some twists, a couple slow spots, but in the end: Highly Recommended. The commentary on this DVD is very informative and interesting as well. You'll get that from every Ric Meyers commentary. This is not Sammo's best production but GET IT! Others that kick a** are: "Odd couple", "Dirty Tiger, Crazy Frog", "Prodigal Son"(My favorite Sammo flick), and "Eastern Condors". Enjoy!....Peace.

Samo Kicks Butt FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This is probably one of Samo's best films. The twist ending and the unbelievable fight choreography is truly unlike most that you've ever seen because it's so realistic...I mean when someone gets a solid side kick to the jaw, its shown with a slow motion close-up and really looks like the actor took it! There are several instances with these kinds of scenes and just amazing...and I thought Magnificent Butcher and Prodigal Son were great. They are, but I have to admit, the choreography in The Victim is far more creative and very complex. The Victim may not have been made with the budget of a Shaw Brothers movie, but the action sure equals and even surpasses many of Shaw's best. What is truly amazing is that the actor who plays the hero (not Sammo), never had martial arts or Peking Opera training. It is through the brilliance of the combined efforts of Sammo Hung's and Yuen Biao's choreography and film editing that makes the hero appear to be a kung fu expert with decades of training. After watching this film you'd think he really was an expert and makes legitimate martial artists/actors like Van Damme and Segal look like wimps.

BEST FIGHT(S): The climax.
CAMEO: Was that Jackie Chan making a very short cameo as a (cross-eyed) hired killer?
