The United States of Leland Reviews
Profound and sad
I thought the movie was exceptional. It speaks of human tragedy- the tragedy that occurs on a daily basis- the sadness of everyday life and the small victories that we experience- however small. It speaks of regret- yet as is spoken, you can't change what has already happened----nor,can you take it back. I thought it was honest and the performance that Ryan Gosling gives is true and sad. I give this movie 5 stars because of the profoundness and the sadness of this movie. All of the characters are flawed and expertly portrayed and most definately worth the time.....Enjoy!
Captured Me
As the parent of a son with autism, this film spoke to me in a way only someone in my situation might understand. I wondered if the actor who played Ryan was really an actor or a real special needs child - so dead on was that performance. The look on his face when he was staring at the woman's necklace - how real that was. And I'd probably argue that Ryan was not "retarded" (UGH - I hate that word)- but autistic. The dialogue regarding Ryan - about him being trapped and knowing it - I have sensed that in my son and in myself and like the film have no answers.....
