The Seventh Seal - Criterion Collection Reviews

Even death hasn't any answers FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Even death hasn't any answers in this existential exploration of life. Who knows what we might do that is really significant in life? Would depicting death in a painting send the people to the priests? (Would a picture of death be more interesting than a naked woman?) Would having visions save us? The iconic characterization of death -- even to the knocking on the door and slowly climbing away into the heavens -- is all here. One critique is the subtitles merge into some of the lighter scenes making it difficult to parce some significant dialogue.

Wow, this person's review is both humorous and sad. FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
(1 star) This is the most boring movie I've ever seen!, June 23, 2003
Reviewer: Carla June Bishop (Carbondale, Illinois) - See all my reviews

I first heard of this movie when watching Last Action Hero. I decided it looked interesting. But when I finally rented it I found out that it's not even in English. Not one person in the movie speaks english. There's English Subtitles. Also it was really long and boring.
It was the most boring movie I've ever seen in my life. I have a couson who thinks this movie is interesting and good. He must be crazy to think it's good. Do not rent or buy this it's completly boring and not in the language of Sweeden.

I'm only 17, but even I can see the brilliance of Bergman. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on film. However, based on reviews from the vast majority of film critics and aesthetic scholars far away from Hollywood, I think we can determine that this definitely one of the crown jewels of cinema.

As I said in the title, this person's review made me laugh with a grimace. I laughed at her ignorance (the irony is that she has a cousin who can appreciate it, ha ha) but at the same time, it's a shame she can't see the beauty. Is she just an ignorant pig? Or is Hollywood to blame? With the massive shift in cinema towards action, colour, and films made in English (if you can still call it that) it is perhaps understandble how this woman is so ignorant.

The fact that she was watching last action hero (which epitomizes new Hollywood) makes me wonder how good films can manage to emerge from the slime nowadays.

Tell me what you think, at rscampbell530@charter.net (I rarely have time to check it, but I'm grateful for feedback nonetheless).
