The Ring (Widescreen Edition) Reviews
SPPOOOOOKKKKEEEEYYYYY
This film is hella creepy, it's one of the most disturbing movies I have seen. It starts with a bang and though it does flag at times, overall it keeps up the suspense. Watts does a credible job with the lead, but the kid that plays her son is trying too hard to channel Haley Joel Osmant. Though this story is a take on a Japanese film that was one of the top grossing film in the history of Japan, it feels highly original and I could not wait to find out how it would end. If you are someone that likes suspense then you will definitely want to get this DVD, but if you see it late at night you might want to make sure you're not alone, it is spppooookkkkeeeyyyy.
Mesmerizing Supernatural Thriller
Eerie music, stunning visuals, a deceptively simple premise, and understated performances combine to form a disturbing, hypnotic film. The atmosphere is so engrossing that it's tempting to dismiss "The Ring" as a triumph of style over substance. But, Amazon's review notwithstanding, the movie is actually expertly crafted, and repeated viewings will reveal a tightly focused plot, precisely worded dialogue, and meticulous attention to detail.
In the end, not everything is "explained", but the unanswered questions only enrich the story, evoking the sense of an actual encounter with the paranormal.
The entire cast shines, but Brian Cox's portrayal of Richard Morgan, Samara's long-suffering father, is especially haunting.
