Fred Savage plays a sick boy, whom one day gets an unexpected visit from his grandfather. Savage is pulled away from his video games to hear a story that has been passed down through the generations. The story of true love, a giant, swordplay, miracles, and anything else that is required of a great story. Savage reluctantly listens, makes several inappropriate interruptions, is put in his place, and concludes with an understanding of why his grandfather wished for him to hear the story.

"There is a shortage of perfect breast in this world. It would be a pity to damage yours."

Rob Reiner (Stand by Me, A Few Good Men, Misery, When Harry met Sally, North, and This Is Spinal Tap) directs this marvelous movie. It would be hard to call The Princess Bride his best work, at least for me, but not for some. I was surprised to see The Princess Bride did not win a Best Picture Oscar in 1987 for him. However, I was glad to read Reiner received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, next to his father's star.

"Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates? Morons."

I think they should have done a little better with the menu screen. The one provided is a little generic. The 1980's baseball video games provided me with a vivid 80's flashback. A movie as great as the Princess Bride, you would expect a better DVD with a ton of extras. Personally, I feel a special edition needs to be released.

"Life is pain. Anyone who says different is selling something."

Reiner does a marvelous job of developing his characters, without fully developing any of them. Buttercup, Westley, Prince Humperdinck, Fezzik, none of the characters except Inigo Montoya do you receive any background information on prior to them being introduced to the story. You never see Buttercup's family members, or Westleys reasoning for being a poor farm boy. However, you have a strong feeling of what each character is about, and their purpose. Even when Fezzik and Inigo Montoya are bad guys, you do not feel they are bad guys. Reiner develops a strong bond between his characters and the audience.

"Nonsense. You're only saying that because no one ever has."

This is a must have for your DVD collection. Especially if you have kids. The title portrays this film to be primarily for girls, which is completely incorrect. This is a very good movie for all ages, all generations, and either sex. The Princess Bride has great characters, a great story, is funny, and entertaining from beginning to end.

Truth, Beauty, Freadom and Above All Esle, True Love
True love is the greastest thing you will ever experience. In this movie true love is the only thing that matters to Westly and buttercup. If I had to pick and favorite character it would be Westley. He is soo sweet and really handsome. This movie is great for the whole family and is a total chick-flick. This movie will ALWAYS remain my favorite movie of all time and Cary Elwes will always be my favorite. If you havent seen this movie yet then get going! Go Rent It!!!! I sure you will love The Princess Bride and the R.O.U.Ses!! :)

I REALLY HATE THIS MOVIE
For years now I have wondered why people think this movie is so wonderful. It is not funny and the whole movie is just stupid. It is time the truth came out. This movie is pathetic as are the performances by the actors.
