A real eye opener!
Having watched The Patriot, I think I will now reserve judgement on Americas' role in the war on Iraq until I have seen the Hollywood version of events. It will probably transpire that the Iraqis were busy burning down churches full of innocent Americans while George Bush, played by Mel Gibson, was one of the greatest and most noble heroes of the last century. Anyone who thinks Americans learn more of their countries history from Mel Gibson films than actual historical events clearly need their heads examining!

Great Movie, ..............But Has Flaws!!!!!!!
The Patriot directed by the legendary Ronald Emmerich(Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow), is a masterpiece and a gem in my collection of DVD's!!! This movie tells about the struggles, the sacrifices, and the hardships the colonists faced during their valiant crusade for freedom!!! This movie contains plenty of epic battles, tons of excitment, drama, and is made into an instant classic!!!

The story goes something like this:

Benjamin Martin(Mel Gibson), an legendary war hero form the French Indian Wars, always feared that his sins would catch up to him!!! He, now raises his family peacefully on a farm in South Carolina. As, war looms among the colonies, his son Gabriel(Heath Ledger) joins the Yankees!!! As, the conflict reaches close to home and all he holds dear to his heart is at stake, and he takes arms alongside Gabriel and lead a milita, in a valiant crusade to freedom, against the British juggernaut!!! The hardships of war and take their tole on the small force and it seems that in a way his sins have caught up to him, and he realizes the only way to save his family is to fight for freedom!!!

True, some of the information is historically incorrect in the movie for example; The American flag wasn't created until after the Revolutionary War. The British were the only ones that granted slaves freedom for serving in their military!!! George Washington himself was in fact a slave owner, I'm not saying he was bad, but the director obviously either made the mistake, or tried to make the Yankees look better, by saying that if slaves served in the Continental Army they would be granted freedom as well!!!

The British didn't fight as barbaric as they were meant to look like in this film either, for example, killing the wounded Yankees, and killing innocent civilians!!! The director obviously tried to make it a good vs. evil, conflict and add a more cinametic feel to it!!! This practice is commonly used in Hollywood, but it really didn't effect the movie for me at all!!! This movie is not propangda, it's called Hollywood!!! So , welcome to Hollywood!!!

The British, believed in "so called" civlized war fare , yet I still wonder what the hell they were smoking!!! Marching up about 10-15 feet from the opposing army, lining up in lines and taking turns shooting at each other, sounds more like maddness if you ask me, but that is how times were!!! The militia had the right idea, unlike the regulars, and it shows in the movie!!!

The French didn't come to help us either, they joined our side, hoping do cause the trouble for the British, and was interested in the Frontier, example The French and Indian War; refered to many times in this movie!!! Take a look about 30 years latter, During, The War of 1812, yes they may haven't been the enemy but they caused a lot of trouble like seizing ships murdering sailors!!! Ok, since History 101 is now over, we can get back to the review on the movie!!!

The movie though does give you a good idea about how life was lived during that period of American History!!! The visual genius, the settings, and the out fits are all amazing and fit the time period!!! You also have a strong cast of actors including: Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger, and many more talanted actors doing their jobs well!!!

Some people have mixed feelings because of a few flaws, .... I hate when people make a big deal about simple things that don't make or shape a movie unless you are a hardcore history buff, but for a action fan like me This is a great Historical fiction, action packed, and a plainly great movie!!!

This movie is action packed, and filled with lots of guns galore combat, that features visual eye candy!!! Along, with some cool special features that give you aa authenic cinametic feel that satisfies any action fan, or war movie fan!!!

I can best describe this movie as a historical war movie jazzed up with some great action adventure, and truly gives you the feel of the peiod!!! I give this a 4/5, a plainly great movie basd on the Revolutionary War, that has some flaws, but is redeemed by visual eye candy and it's plain boldness!!! Two Thumbs Up!!!

Propaganda - Plain and Simple
This film is absolutely ludicrous. It is a shocking and unabashed revision of American history, an indefensible white-wash of the revolutionary period, and an unequivocal insult to the British (not to mention all independent thinking Americans).

For the love of God, people, think about what you're watching!
