The Night Flier Reviews
Keeps you guessing
This movie is true to Stephen King and has you guessing until the very end. I really enjoyed this movie because it is not your typical horror or vampire movie.
Much better than expected.
I was extremely impressed with "The Night Flier." To be frank, I really was not expecting much from this movie. I was expecting a creepy little flick with some bloody effects and maybe a nasty looking vampire. What I wasn't expecting, on the other hand, was a thoroughly compelling, not to mention frightening, horror/mystery.
We've all heard of those cheap tabloid newpapers; you know, the kind with such outrageous headlines as "Bigfoot Saves Five from Exploding Camper" or "540 Pound Czechoslovakian Gives Birth to Alien Twins by Phone Sex!!"; you know the types. That is exactly the kind of place where Richard Dees works. Dees is a cold, isolated, stone-hearted son of a bitch: according to him, he has no friends, just his plane, camera, and his stories, and he has no desire for anything else.
Dees is offered a story on a new serial killer going around in a black Cessna Skymaster, killing his victims and horribly mutilating their corpses (the large bite wounds in the neck indicate this guy is a bit of a Dracula fanatic). Dees' boss thinks this front-page material will put Dees back on the map; apparently, his work has been lacking lately. He rejects at first, but takes it after he hears some nasty details about the case(Dees has a rather disturbing enthusiasm when it comes to horribly bloody deaths).
Oh, and I can't leave out his opponent, the naive and inexperienced Blair; the kind of broad who tries to make friends with the coldest guy around and actually thinks she will come out of it successful. They both have the same story, and each one is trying to get the best facts as quickly as possible. Dees has the skills to help and the arrogance to hamper, whereas Blair has the enthusiasm to help and the inexperience to hamper. To reveal any more about the competition, or any more about the plot, really, would ruin the story; so I will shut up and tell you why you should purchase this unexpectedly great vampire film.
For one, this thing has a remarkable amount of blood; I'm talking twenty corpses in a room, all hacked up and bloodied, the whole nine yards. I like a movie that does not rely solely on gore to satisfy its viewers; so I suppose another reason I liked this is because the plot is intricate and involving. I was literally in suspense the entire time; this is serious edge-of-your-seat entertainment. And last, but not least, this was one creepy movie. Not since the spectral vampire Glick boys of Salem's Lot, or the hideous visage of Nosferatu (Schreck or Kinski, take your pick), have I been so incredibly chilled to such a degree. There is one scene in particular, in which Dees gets a small taste of Hell, that turned my blood cold and chilled me right to the core.
"The Night Flier" is a terrifically creepy King adaption, as well as one of the scariest vampire movies I have ever seen, will one hell of a kicker of an ending. Any vampire fan, or just horror fan in general, should pick up a copy of this excellent adaption; a King adaption I would seriously consider ranking up there with "The Shining", "Carrie", and "Salem's Lot." So, if you are looking for a chillingly bloody good time, I whole-heartedly recommend "The Night Flier."
