The Mummy (Widescreen Collector's Edition) Reviews
Bring on a few more sequels!!
If you are a fan of Indiana Jones, or any kind of action shoot 'em up film, than this movie is for you. If you are looking for a flawless, oscar-worthy Jack Nicholson type movie, go somewhere else. This movie is extremely fun to watch, and very funny. You don't have to be an egyptologist to follow it, the plot is very simple. It is set in 1923, Rick O'connel, (Brendan Fraser,) Evalyn, (Rachel Weisz), and Jonathan (John Hannah), are on their way to Hamunaptra, The city of the dead, after finding a map that will lead to treasure hidden there. In the proscess, they awaken a cursed mummy of a priest named Imhotep. (Arnold Vosloo.) Its even more fun to watch it if you do know about Egypt. The film takes many names from real ancient Egyptian names and places, and uses them in different areas. For example, Imhotep was the name of the Architect who designed the first pyramid. Evalyn was the name of a woman archeoligist that helped in the discovery of Tutankhamen's tomb. The critics call it an Indiana Jones rip-off, which I do not think is true. All that it borrows from the Indiana Jones movies is the gun-firing action and overall dark feel that you got from Raiders of the Lost Ark, making it seem very similiar. The plot does not borrow a thing from it, nor do the actors. The movie is absolutely hilarious, although in some parts sort of silly. The movie isn't really horror. It is a little gory, but it is filled with so much humor that you can't consider it horror. The landscapes and sets are beautiful. Save money on a trip to Egypt and watch this movie. Even my sister couldn't help saying "Wow." When she saw the opening scene in ancient-time egypt. The DVD has some cool extras, and good picture quality. If you liked this movie, then you will have to enjoy its sequel, The Mummy Returns, which is not as good but comes close.
Bring on a third!!
This is a Indiana Jones of it's time!!
This movie is an Indiana Jones of it's time. It has romance, action, horror, and some drama to it in the beginning. It all starts with a sort of affair between Imhotep and the pharhoa's mistress Anck Su Namun. The pharohoa comes in on the while they make out. So, Imhotep hides. Then, Anck Su Namun and Imhotep kill the pharoh. The rest you much watch it's all very interesting and exciting. With the mummy sucking the fluids out of people and man eating bugs that devour people in second's, it all adds up to be very, on the edge of your seat type of movie. But, that's what make's it great and it's why it get's 5 golden star's!!
