Let him fall into your DVD player
This is a great fully restored copy of this film. If you are not familiar with it, well the title says it all as for plot. It is a wierd movie but one that is more enjoyable each time you watch. Great period piece. If it were anyone but Bowie, I might think it was the story of Bill Gates early days.
Surgically precise representation of the 1970s
I remember reading that Bowie had been typecast as an alien in this film... His character slowly assimilates US culture and he finds himself comfortably trapped, his original mission forgotten. Compare and contrast this film to 1950s spaceship & robot sci fi films. The Man Who Fell to Earth is the ultimate 1970s sci fi film -- Star Wars was about hardware, this film is about how an alien may well experience life on Earth.
Yet another disquieting Nicolas Roeg film -- still prickly after all these years and all those viewings. It would make a great centerpiece to a night of 1970s sci fi with "Death Race 2000" and "The Final Programme" (aka "The Last Days of Man on Earth").
