The Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring (Platinum Series Special Extended Edition) Customer Reviews (34 - 36 of 105 Reviews)

Yes that's right! I'm not giving it 5 stars like the rest of the world! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
Well, I kind of feel confused that soooooo many people love this and the two sequels. I have to admit that the cast is good but Elijah Wood's wimpy character Frodo bugs me, and the plot is very solid and is the cinematography. The visuals are gorgeous. Well I'm sure that everyone knows the plot but in case not, it's about a "fellowship" of people that join together to take an evil and very powerful ring back to where it was made to destroy it. (It can only be destroyed in the lava where it was made) Well, anyway, for one, the movie starts off very slowly. It's not for a while that there's some battles. Now, while the battles are neat and cool and all that, I just found the movie very boring. It's always a drag for me to sit through this 3 hour movie. Oh, and yeah right, like I'd ever watch the extended version. That's probably like 4 hours! The movie progresses too slowly and it's just really boring to me. And believe me, I sat through Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, and Black Hawk down without feeling bored. Those movies are all really long but not once was I bored. This movie on the other hand had some interesting moments and very cool fights, but it had many unnecessary moments which made it boring. I closed my eyes a lot during it because I was just bored. Also, how could any human being sit through all 3 of these at one viewing at the movie theather or at home? That's just sick! You couldn't even pay me to do that. Also, how does this movie make sooooooooooooooo much more money than Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, and Black Hawk Down? Those 3 movies are based on true events that probably our relatives participated in. Those are based on reality! Shouldn't America's audience be more interested in adaptations of war reality than adaptations of fictional war? Hey, I'm sure everyone dissagrees with this review but that's just how I feel.

One of the greatest FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This movie is probably one of the greatest movies ever made. But before I go exalting it(lol), let me clear up a few points that
someone named JP has muddied. First, the very first thing in the movie is a battle. I won't spoil anyone's fun, but it is awesome! Also, the movie is not slow, if it was nothing but battles, it would miss the true substance of the books. It is great, but I
recommend getting the extended version.

"I'm going to Mordor alone!" FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
"Of course you are, and I'm coming with you!"

Once again, the extended version is the DVD to have. The extended version allows you to see the version of the movie Peter Jackson intended, as well as more of the story the way it was supposed to be told.

"A wizard is never late, nor early. He arrives precisely when he intends to."

I was glad to see the correct manner in which each character receives a trinket when the fellowship leaves the enchanted forest. That bothered me most in the theatrical version. The mysterious elven woman of the forest provides each member a useful object. Also, the extended fight scenes are marvelous, and more gruesome.

"Fool of a Took. Throw yourself in next time and rid us of your stupidity."

It was also great to see the love story begin between Aragorn and Arwen. How about the cave troll scene with Legalos climbing the chain to his head, could that have been done better? Gimli and the scene where he just barely makes the leap and is held up by just his beard (that must have hurt).

"I have the eyes of an eagle and the ears of a fox."
"The dwarf breathes so loud we could have shot him in the dark."

Sam, Merry, and Pippin are slowly discovering what they have got themselves into, especially Merry and Pippin. The sad story of Boromir, who has good in his heart, and the best intentions, but the ring brings out the darkness in all. Gollum is just being discovered, but why does he follow, and why does Gandalf allow it? Gandalf has let fire works off in the shire for the last time, but he serves a bigger role in the story yet.

"One small bite is enough to fill the stomach of a grown man."
"How many did you eat?
"Four."

Oh, the plot, the story, the characters, the theme, and everything in between. People will argue if this is the greatest trilogy of all time (I say it is). Anytime a movie is placed in the same argument as Star Wars for the title of greatest movie of all time (I still think this is better), props are deserved, and rightfully so. Buy the extended version, and enjoy this movie for years to come.

Grade: A+
