This movie was trite, predictable and probably Carrey's worst over acting. Him hamming up the cardiac arrest when the Grinch's heart grew actually made me leave and go play a couple of video games in the lobby. Missed the innocent yet insightful spirit of the cartoon completely. Instant Classic
This movie is an instant classic and together with "Scrooged" with Bill Marrey two of the best Christmass movies out there. Who can doubt Jim Carrey's talent? He is fantastic! For me the term classic is that when the movie plays on tv you cant take your eyes of it no matter how many times you have seen it. I might have seen Grinch today for the third time only but it was a great enjoyment (nothing compared to Scrooged with Bill which I have seen for 20 times or more and I will definetly seen it again this Christmass-he is fantastic also!!!). In the end there are some christmass movies which make you feel better and makes you wanna be a better person. Grinch no matter how simple and childish might seem it manages to touch me and it will be a certain movie I will let my children (to come!!) in the near future!!! Jim Carrey is one of the best comedians out there today and no matter how repettitive he can become sometimes he is genuine and a great actor...give me one mediocre movie he made...one... Great! But could have been better...
I saw this movie in theaters and I did not know what to think of it. The cinematography and the sets were absolutely amazing, and the two dimensional world of Dr. Seuss so effectively brought to life visually was stunning. But despite the beauty of the setting, there are a few details that do muddle this movie. Although Jim Carrey as the Grinch is outrageously funny (The presents! They'll all be destroyed! AND I CARE! What's the Deal?) some of the humor goes a bit too far and eventually stops being funny. Had Ron Howard used restraint on the crudeness and pushed the emotion and story forward a bit, you would have a wonderful heart-warming retelling of the classic story that does have a few hilarious moments that are truly hilarious and not crude or stupid.
