As wild as any drug trip...
This is the only western that I can watch over and over and over and over... Clint should have left westerns behind after this one, because he never even got close again-EVER. He is not now, nor ever was, the caliber of director that Leone was-Clint's forte is screen presence/on screen style. His best movies (as an actor) were those that had someone else direct, and challenged him to dig for something more or at least do something different. This is one of those movies.
A Brilliant Classic
*This film exemplifies American film-making at its best. In flawless and fast-paced action, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly provides limited dialogue amongst its characters, as the acting is simply fantastic not only for its time but in the history of film. Eastwood is at his best.................the film encompasses and intriguing plot with suspense, action, revenge, and courage...not to mention the ending is fantastic...see it for yourself
Interesting foley work...
If foley artistry intrigues you like it does me, this film is definitly full of interesting techniques, and has it's share of "artifacts."
Aside from the fact that it's an old "Spaghetti Western" which was a joint venture between Italy and US actors, there is the issue of the dubbing, which in the remastered version has been cleaned up tremendously. The remastering artists did a wonderful job correcting many problems with the previous dubs, including insert pink noise, voices and other effects to help mask some of the original artifacts.
All in all, with the original Mono track in italian laying side by side with the English (A rarity with R1 discs), this is definitly a treat!
