The Fifth Element Reviews
There's only one way to make it watchable...RiffTrax!
I saw this movie when it first came out. I was on a school trip to Spain, and there was a smaller group that travelled with us to fill out the bus. Two of the girls on this trip were Wiccans, and they would not shut up about how great The Fifth Element, which had just come out, was. I saw it soon after, and remembered thinking it was good, so I was puzzled why Mike Nelson (of MST3K) selected it for his second RiffTrax release (Road House was the first.)
You'll realize why within the first ten minutes. There are so many ridiculous things about this movie that make it the perfect fodder for Nelson's riffing. Let's just rattle off a few: The President is played by a former Pro Wrestler who cannot be understood and doesn't stop sweating. Somehow we are expected to believe that Chris Tucker plays an intergalacticly famous RADIO SHOW HOST, when his behavior would be enough to drive any reaonable listener mad within seconds. The directing style plays by its own set of rules, cutting away from scenes for reaction shots by characters who have no possible way of knowing what just happened outside of the chance that they were watching the film along with us. And the list goes on.
Fortunately, we have the option of watching the film with Mike Nelson, or at least the next best thing. His RiffTrax commentary adds much needed tongue in cheek pokes at the films, and had me laughing throughout. I honestly can say that I would find it hard to watch the Fifth Element again without it. I can't wait to see what movie they Riff on next.

3 stars for the set designs, costumes & cgi
Stinky storyline, Gary Oldman is always good and evil, Bruce is too old to be a loverboy, Milla looks like a skinny raggedy ann doll and Chris Tucker should have been killed off in his first scene. Does anyone else find him annoying as hell? I mean the guy is a blister extrodinare. Skip this one. Uck!
