Good 'B' Western From 1961.

I recently found this western on DVD in a group of a 100+ bought on the Platinum western series. The transfer from film to disc is pretty good as most Platinum transfers are. The film runs approximately 90 minutes, I would venture a guess it was made for TV.

Though the reviews here are a mixed-bag, I enjoyed this western and it shows that Peckinpah knew a good book when he saw one: the film comes from a 1960 Gold Medal western entitled "Yellowleg" by A. E. Fleishman.

I had never seen this film before and was quite pleased with it, especially seeing Steve Cochran, and Chill Wills, who though portraying 'black hats' are fairly likeable, though one knows they will eventually come to a bad end. The dialog and plot are suitable for this type film taken from a western book, and all actors/actresses are interesting to watch in their roles from Hila City through Apache country to Siringo. (Cowboy Charlie Siringo would have gotten a kick out of that tribute) The actor playing 'Doc Acton' is Will Wright and though he has only a cameo here, has been in more films than one can remember, and though he is aged both he and his cigar are more than up to the cameo.

I enjoy most westerns be they celluloid or paperback; and some Peckinpah films I can take while others leave alone; so for someone with no prejudice about this film, full screen or wide, I find it very watchable. Since I got it and 30 others for less than $20.00 I'm certainly not going to complain.

i make my opinion about the DVD
I bought this item and i have to say that i dont't see the movie (was a gift for someone else) but i see the main menu and is very poor, just the movie and the menus scene, nothing else, is true the DVD es very cheap, but i expect a little more for a clasic like this; a good thing is the CASE, is a Beauty Slim Case.

Compe este item y no tengo nada que decir de la pelicula pues no la evisto (era un regalo), sin embargo puedo dar mi opinion respecto al DVD y les dire que lo encuentro bastante pobre, el menu solo tiene la pelicula y la seleccion de escenas, pero nada mas, ni banda sonora, ni biografia del director, ni sinopsis...nada, es verdad que es barato, pero esperaba algo mas. Algo a favor es la CAJA es una Caja de las delgadas (no habia visto una asi) tipo Slim Case, muy bonita y practica.
