Yar, you be here: The Crow > Customer Reviews The Crow Customer Reviews (19 - 21 of 51 Reviews)For what it's worth, a quality dark movie
In a day when we're getting an overload of super hero movies left and right, The Crow still stands near the top. As much as i enjoy a good super hero movie, i personally like the darker ones the best. Spiderman was pretty good, but too cheery for me. The darker movies tend to rely more on imagery and power than an overload of special effects. Some of the hero movies try to be dark but end up crappy (Daredevil). Personally, the best to pull it off are a select few of the Batmans (Begins, 1 and 2) and this. The best scenes of this movie are those that have little or no dialogue. Not saying that any time someone talks it ruins the movie, its just the way that the imagery takes over. The look that Brandon Lee gives himself as the Crow is both subtle and pure evil at the same time. The Crow shows that you don't need to go overboard on costumes to give a frightning image. I'd sh*t my pants if i saw some guy coming towards me looking like Lee. The plot was simple yet creative and believable. The acting slips a bit here and there, for example when Lee gives the morphine lecture to Sarah's mother and at times he seems uncomfortable saying the word "Shelly." However, the movie always seems to recover. Favorite scenes are probably when he goes after Tin Tin because it just looks so dark and evil , and the big shootout at Top Dollar's, that just goes without saying. Despite that Skank guy being a little annoyingly dumb and the unthreatening gang member names (Tin Tin, Fun Boy) this movie excels. My favorite superhero movie is still Batman Begins, but this one really surprised me with its simple, dark, and just downright evil ways. OVERATED
This movie is one of the most overated ever. Most of the reviews on Amazon are excellent ones but I have to disagree. Alex Proyas is an excellent director but this is his weakest effort of the 2 movies of his that I have seen. Dark City is a masterpiece digging into your minds days after you watch it. This movie isn't thought provoking, is predictable and is very dark. Batman is Barney compared to this. This movie is always dark. But, most of this movie's faults don't really matter because it's a superhero movie. At the start of all superhero movies, you know what's going to happen. But, I like superhero movies, as they deliver good laughs and awesome fights. This movie wasn't funny and wasn't supposed to be. It was supposed to be dark. And it was. Superhero movies are the easiest to make because they're croud pleasing as long as they have cool fights and awesome visuals. Who cares if it's mindless junk? It's still fun. But, this movie was really dark. It is a solid rental for fan of superhero movies but beware, it has over the top violence and curse words unlike other superhero movies. But, Blade had curse words and lots of violence but I still loved it. Well, I just don't know, but this movie was slow moving, weird and too violent. On top of it, there aren't really any cool fight scenes. In one shootout, the crow (not the bird, the superhero) shoots and kills everyone. But, he gets shot at also but he's invincible and can't die. This scene is lame because bullets just go through him and he deosn't die and just shoots them. The movie is fun and exciting at times but most of the time, it's weird, really violent and way too dark. This movie isn't like the other superhero movies. No this one is infested with drugs, nonstop blood and gore, and lots of weird stuff. This movie could have been an excellent movie but to me, it was a movie that was a descent watch that I'll never rewatch again. The only reason that this movie is probably famous is because of the tragedy that befell Brandon Lee in it. This is something horrifying and tragic, and bizarre. And don't even get me started about the acting. Good job by Brandon Lee but even he seems to not be into it at all. But all of the other actors/actresses were horrible, notably the skater girl. Lastly, this movie is made in a very corny and cheesy way. Why? Because one minute, the crow will be stabbing people and blowing up buildings and the next he'll be hugging a little girl. Oh and what the heck was up with the crow weird quotes. Why was he talking about the raven by Edgar Allen Poe? Is he supposed to be an intellectual zombie? Oh, and what's up with him talking about God and how God doesn't want people to use heroin. I'm sure he's drugged up in the movie! I mean, he must be on drugs to paint that weird stuff on his face. Sure it's cool looking but he must be high. For a superhero movie, this movie is a major letdown. And that makes it even a bigger letdown because superhero movies are the easiest movies to make. They all are predictable, they all have tons of problems but most are likeable. But not this one. you have to be objective, this is a bad movie
I don't see how this movie has a 7.x on IMDB, it's a stupid movie, so stupid that I couldn't be bothered to sit through all of it, half of this simple movie was enough for me. This has such bad and unconvincing acting, especially by the star of the film, Brandon Lee. A movie with a poorly executed story is made even harder to watch when the star of the movie couldn't act his way out of a house with no walls (therefore no roof, think about it). His wife got raped and killed, what is he supposed to be, angry or campy in this movie? Why is he making jokes as he toys with his victims? If the movie didn't take itself so seriously, then I wouldn't mind that performance choice so much. Everything from the script and the dialog was formulaic. Instead of Spider-Man, this movie was Elektra, 'nuff said.
