The Buddhist Fist Reviews
Good and funny
This movie not only has some creative fight scenes, it also has some very funny scenes as well. Some scenes will have you laughing, and not like other kung fu movies that are stupidly funny, this one is on purpose.
Recommended highly!
"Buddha bless you."
This movie is sold as one of Yuen Woo-ping greatest movies. I purchased this movie after reading the reviews on Amazon and seeing that many people on their "Listomania's" has Buddhist Fist listed as one of the top 5 Martial Arts movies of all time. Well, despite being a good movie, it would barely fall on Yuen Woo-ping top 5 all time movies.
Buddhist fist is a very fun movie, w/a great cast, and great choreography. Buddhist Fist stars Shun-Yee Yuen (Iron Monkey, Fist of Legend, Drunken Tai-Chi, and Dreadnaught) as the main character. He leaves his city and up bringing w/his close friend played by Siu Ming Tsui (Twin Dragons), only to find out the real world isn't so nice.
He returns home to find his father has disappeared, and there seems to be a huge conspiracy going on around town. He realizes his father must know what is going on, and that is why he has turned up missing. Despite not being a Buddhist, the master of the local Buddhist temple took him on like one of his own, and helps him keep up his martial arts.
A member of the Buddhist temple has been playing both sides of the track. The person playing on the good guys side and the bad guys side has been framed and pressured into betraying his temple. Of course, Shun-Yee Yuen is forced to fight the conspirator at the end of the movie, and the final choreographed fight scene is fabulous, amazing to tell the truth.
This is a very good movie, very entertaining, and fun to watch. It is not one of the top 5 martial arts movies of all time, and if your starting a collection from scratch I would recommend 7 Grandmasters, Magnificent Butcher, Iron Monkey, Tai-chi Master, and Master of the Flying Guillotine before this movie. Buddhist Fist is definitely worth having in your collection, but it should not be the absolute best martial arts movie in your collection.
