Leonardo, Why?!
I am fed up with these R rated movies but Leonardo Dicaprio is one of THE most greatest actors in history. But I DO NOT want to see "The Beach." I have a crush on Leo and I don't want to give it up. Leo should have stayed with "Titanic."
I don't know what Dicaprio was thinking, but he has got to stop making all these R rated violent movies like "The Basketball Diaries."
If you want family entertianment, go get "Titanic" with Kate Winslet and Leo, or "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" with Jonny Depp and Freddie Highmore.
HOLLYWOOD REARRANGES A BOOK AGAIN!
I read the book and thought it was well written, if a little derivative of 'lord of the flies' at times. So following my rule of always reading the book before the film, i sat down to watch this. I found it difficult to beleive that they both were the same thing. Characters are given a sympathectic slant when in the book they were cold and caculating. There is an underlying love intrest which was only briefly refered to and the ending has been completely rewritten so that we have a nice Hollywood happy ending instead of the dramactic and sad ending as written. This is an absolute travesty from start to finish. The only actor that comes out of it well is Robert Carlisle physcopathic Scottish traveller. The biggest disaster (and that is all he ever seems capable of) is Leonard DiCaprio who's acting is so wooden it makes Hugh Grant's efforts seem almost Shakesperian. He is so totally unbelievable in the lead role. There is no depth to his acting and he spends so much time acting cool and blaise that i couldn't help but wonder with such a drastic rewrite, DiCaprio's early demise at the hands of the drug dealers would of been a welcome relief. If you like the book, you will absolutely loathe this! Simply awful!
