Sequels, I hate those guys! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
I have to admit, the new DVD release of these 3 movies delivers on image restoration. But seeing "Temple of Doom" and "Last Crusade" again, I was reminded of how terrible these movies really are. "Raiders of the Lost Ark" is without a doubt one of the greatest action movies of the last century. Heart-stopping action with humor tossed in for relief. The two following movies seem to be just the opposite; centered on bad jokes with some lame action tossed in to keep the film going. Notice how in "Raiders" the Nazi's were terrifying, keeping movie goers on the edge of their seats hoping Indy will escape. By the time "Last Crusade" comes around, Nazi's have been turned into big boot and big hat wearing buffoons; to be laughed at rather than feared. Why should anyone worry for Indiana Jones when he's up againt a bunch of clowns?

Spielberg and co. are in the process of making a new film. Please, Please, Please do not ruin my childhood memories of Indiana Jones any further!

Indy on DVD(finally!!!!!) FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
After the first Star Wars trilogy,The Indiana Jones trilogy was the most sought after movie series that was in demand to come out on DVD.
The movies themselves made between 1981-89 were the collective work of Director Steven Spielberg,Producer/Writer George Lucas, and Harrison Ford as archeologist/adventurer Indiana Jones. The movies have aged very well(thanks to the movies being 1930's period era),and even the primitive pre CGI special effect still holds up and shows more ingenuity than many CGI loaded movies(including Lucas' latter day Star Wars Movies).
The first film Raider of The Lost Ark was released in 1981 as Indy race against the Nazis to find the Ark of the Covenant. The most memorable scenes were the prelude which includes a Peruvian idol followed by a massive boulder chase,A basket chase in Cairo,a chamber filled with asp,a desert chase, and finally the opening of the Ark.A mixture of smart writing, high adventure and at the time inventive special effects made it a runaway hit out the gate.
1984's Temple of Doom was the series least popular installment as Indy search for the Shankara stones that are being held by a bloodthirsty cult in India. The movie featured kidnapped children as prisoners, sacrifices, and other dark elements that even an exciting escape including a high speed minecar chase can't take the bad taste out your mouth.
1989's The Last Crusade was a lighter movie than TOD.Featuring Sean Connery as Henry Jones Sr.,TLC harkened back to the fun spirit of Raiders,as the prize this time is the Holy Grail which memorable scenes includes a prelude into Indy's youth,Catacombs filled with rats in Venice,a motorcycle chase in Germany,a desert tank chase,as well as the "Three Challenges".It brought back the lively spirits that TOD seemed to have soured.
The only minuses of the DVD set is the lack of Commentary, deleted scenes and other assorted goodies that a group of films of this stature deserves,as well as the fact that we many shell out more money when the fouth installment(due in theaters summer 2005)comes out on DVD.But just the fact that Indiana Jones' adventures are on DVD is reason enough to find fortune and glory all over again.

Great set FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Indiana Jones has been one of my fave series of movies since I was little. Raiders of the Lost Ark is so great, it's so exciting and I really liked the female lead. I always had a crush on Indiana, and the movies have a great blend of humor, action and adventure. Last Crusade is also excellent, I love Indy's scenes with his father, they're so funny together. I really love the opening scene too, with the late River Phoenix (who was extremely talented, check him out in Stand By Me as a boy). It shows how Indiana became afraid of snakes and how an old rivalry started. Temple of Doom is my least favorite Indiana movie, Kate Capshaw wasn't my fave of the girls and it was kind of strange but I'd still rewatch it, just not as much as the other two. To tell the truth, even if there were commentaries and stuff, I wouldn't listen to them. Sometimes extras are really cool to me and sometimes they aren't, and for most movies I don't really care why the director lit a scene the way he did, or what an actor thinks of how he said his line. These movies are grea and stand on their own. I have the bonus disc though, not the one in the set but the other one that was taped outside the package. I'm not sure but I heard they aren't being sold that way anymore.
