All 3 classics that marked adventure movie history on DVD
The Indiana Jones films have marked a certain spot in the Acion/Adventure movie category that no one can outdo or make better. These 3 films are simply classics and will stay with everyone forever. For years and years, the Indiana Jones trilogy has been on VHS and in different trilogy packages, the most recent one coming with Young Indiana Jones tape in it. But, finally, the Indiana Jones trilogy has hit the DVD market, and we, the huge fans, are extremely happy it's in our hands, and in our DVD players.
All 3 films have been digitally remastered with the wonderul THX. Picture is crisp and clear, color is great, and the sound is very good and redone. Only problem I found was the music score. The music score sounded kind of like it was underwater in some parts. Maybe it's just my speakers or somethin but I dunno. Not only does this pack come with the 3 classics, but it also comes with a Bonus Materials disc, which I'm just a little dissapointed in. I thought the movies would have commentaries on them, deleted scenes, gag reels, ya know, your run of the mill bonus material, but it doesn't It comes with a bunch of featurettes and trailers. Also, the price you can't beat. 45 bucks for 4 DVDs! That's a great price.
Overall, this box set of the Indiana Jones trilogy is a must for all you Indy fans out there. Pick it up now, you won't regret it.
Finally together and totally worth it
Sometimes a good movies doesn't have to convey a deep philosophical message or make you think about life and morality. Sometimes just a good story about good overcoming evil makes for one of the best movies of a generation. When it involves archeology, Nazis, the occult, and great action sequences, then you have a cinematic masterpiece worth watching over and over.
The Indiana Jones series is a series of movies that won't make you ponder life and its meaning, but tell a great story that keeps you enthralled and hypnotized. True, Temple of Doom is the weakest of the series, but Raiders of the Lost Ark (in my opinion, the best) and The Last Crusade epitomize the battle of good versus evil. In both, Indy and crew take on the Nazis in Hitler's mad pursuit of religious artifacts supposing to hold incredible powers. Don't worry if you're not that religious and don't know the stories behind the artifacts; they do a great job of giving back-story and myth in the films.
The widescreen DVD collection is top notch with a wonderful transfer and great sound quality. I do have to warn you, though, they tweaked the sound effects ever so slightly and only a few times throughout the movie. If you are used to hearing an explosion a certain way after viewing the original time and time again, you might feel a little cheated or maybe a bit happier. I didn't feel it took away from the original film and I actually believe the gunshots were more realistic to the weapons that were fired.
Over all, a great DVD collection, a must-own for action fans and if you are an Indiana Jones fan and don't yet own this DVD collection, shame on you and pick it up right away!
FINALLY, INDY'S BACK (ON DVD)
After a very, very, very long wait, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), that most beloved action adventure movie hero, finally arrives in a four disc collection, THE ADVENTURES OF INDIANA JONES (Paramount). This eagerly anticipated set offers more than 10 hours of entertainment and includes over three hours of extras you'll actually want to watch.
In may of 1977 George Lucas and Steven Spielberg joined forces to create a daring hero that danced between the sacred and profane, the natural and supernatural. The adventures of the intrepid archeologist from the 1930s tapped into a mythological, universal mind-set that is as old as Gilgamesh and Homer and effectively changed the cinematic landscape forever.
In RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, Indy battles Hitler's attempt to hijack the Ark of the Covenant to not only create an invincible army but also prove himself to be the return of the true messiah. One of the all time great movie plots works on every level of story-telling and film-making.
THE TEMPLE OF DOOM is a much darker tale that Lucas blamed on a bad mood because of his divorce. In the wilds of India, Jones fights an evil Thugee cult that's enslaved children in a fortress-like mine.
The Christian promise of eternal life is at the heart of THE LAST CRUSADE as Indy and his father (Sean Connery) -- the world's leading authority on the legendary Cup of Christ -- fight the Nazis and their attempt to seize the Holy Grail.
The Bonus Material disc features new documentaries made exclusively for this DVD collection. Expanded "making of" features track Indy's three adventures from concept through production. Four all-new featurettes focus on sound, music, special effects and stunts. Also included are the original teasers and trailers of all three titles. The bonus disc enables exclusive access to the Indiana Jones DVD web site.
Restored frame-by-frame by Lowry Digital Images, the films have been remastered by THX and boast a new Dolby Digital immersive 5.1 soundtrack. The set is available in either widescreen or full-screen format. Highest recommendation.
