Raiders of the Lost Ark is quite possibly the greatest action- adventure movie of the last 25 years. Tremendously enjoyable on so many levels. The action, the locations, the dialogue, the romance, the whip and hat and gun. Instant classic and a must own.
The Temple of Doom was, I think, made with the hope there would be many Indiana Jones movies. Alas, only 3 have been made (so far). Consequently, Temple stands as a rather unweildy centerpiece in a coincidental trilogy. The action is actually set before Raiders. Lots of fifth-grade-boy gross out stuff and rascist pointing and sniggering at cultures foreign to America. Kate Capshaw's Willie is a pathetic leading lady. Any Bond girl would stomp her flat. Some pretty good action and clever one-liners.
The Last Crusade was supposed to bring Harrison Ford together with the man who made Indiana Jones a believable character: Sean Connery of the James Bond franchise. After all, who else is Indiana Jones besides an American James Bond drawn from old pulp fiction of the 1940's and 50's. Seems like Spielberg and Lucas were so pleased with themselves for having gotten their man, they forgot to write a script with a wit of intelligence or believability. Add to that the fact that Connery isn't even in the first 50 minutes of the movie. The dialogue would make Rob Schneider roll his eyes and beg for a bolt of lightening. Crusade has some nifty action moments along the way but this dog won't hunt.
The extras are underwhelming. Mostly blowhards Spielberg and Lucas running victory laps. Most of the extras are routine making-of stuff.
I love it
I own this WideScreen Edition 4 disc one of my Favorite movies :)
