Tango and Cash Reviews
Honestly, pretty hard to watch -- and I typically like cop movies
I'm surprised by all the favorable reviews. I typically like "buddy movies," "cop movies," and action thrillers -- even when the plot runs out midway through the flick. This, though, was so goofy (Stallone's lines were wooden, all the characters were patently cliche, etc.) that I found myself skipping through chapters because my gut hurt watching various scenes. There's a scene where (yet again) Kurt Russell dresses in drag; there's a ridiculous scene in a prison where countless inmates were able to get out of their cells and meet the stars in a Batman-esque laundry room to do battle; once the stars escape from prison, they freely walk around town talking and meeting with people (despite the fact that they previously were high-profile cops who everyone in the city presumably would recognize); Jack Palance (one of my favorites) barks out nothing more than expected tough-guy lines while kissing mice and putting them in a maze (like some diabolical James Bond plot); and, speaking of James Bond, there's a ridiculous sequence where the stars visit a goofy "Q-type" who gives them a GMC Jimmy with a gatling gun welded on the side -- as though that's supposed to "wow" us in this day & age. All in all, while I'll confess to owning more than my share of Sly Stallone & Kurt Russell movies, this one was absolutely awful -- even when treated like a Saturday matinee when the rest of the family is gone and you're laying on the couch with nothing better to do. A far cry from any of the Lethal Weapon movies....
"He thinks he's Rambo..."
Tango & Cash brings to the screen the story of two top police officers that find themselves framed by the villain they're trying to catch.
Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Teri Hatcher (!) and the rest of the cast carry out their performances very well, allowing for a highly entertaining movie.
In short, the plot, the setting, the special effects, and the music are all very good (keep in mind though, the film has 80's written all over it).
Overall, though not a masterpiece, it is definitely a movie worth watching, as it will surely provide for an evening's entertainment!
