Swing Kids Reviews

You're Turning Into A Frecking Nazi! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
Swing Kids is an extremely flawed and lackluster film. The film's plot suffers from a mediocre idea, lack of character development, and an extremely unaccurate look at Nazi Germany. The film has a great time period that it chose. It could have chosen numerous, succesful, heartwrenching stories yet we are left with a tale about a group of German teenagers that are into Swing. They think they are rebelling against Hitler by doing this and the film makes it seem as if they are. While this tale could have been midly interesting, the writers hardly put anything into any of the main characters. The only teenager that you even slightly care about is Peter Muller who at times I still find to be predictible. One character that should have alot more development is the crippled swinger who stands up against the Nazis. I really just find his charcter to be annoying and I did not care one bit when he commited suicide. As far as the accuracy of the picture goes. It is rather appauling. While there are such people known as Swing Kids the film does not even begin to grasp the horror that was Nazi Germany, but then again this is a Disney picture. The film does, however, show the brain-washing scheme Hitler used, quite a bit in the film. To top the innacuracy off, all the charcters in the film speak English. The direction from Thomas Carter is bad by no means, but it wasn't amazing either. I do enjoy the film's lighting however. The acting is actually quite horrendous by most of the cast. There are some notable faces in the picture being a young Christian Bale and Noah Wyle who come off horribly annoying as well as the handicapped actor who's name escapes me at this moment. Leonard portrays Peter fairly well but Branagh steals the show with his sly and evil performance as Herr. While the film may be acclaimed most for its swing soundtrack I really don't care for swing so it did nothing for me. Overall, Swing Kids is an extremely weak look at an extremely crucial period of time in this world.

All that jazzed up FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
It has become a practice of the Politically Correct to selectively add varios favored groups to the list of the nazi persecuted. People who might be prosecuted or disliked in other cultures that any society would deal with as part of its dayly existence like taking out the trash. Despite harsh anti-smoking laws smokers certainly are not considred victims of nazi persecution.

I find this practice repugnant as except for the Jews, the Gypsies and the Mentally or Physically handicapped, members of these groups could escape nazi attention merely be behaving, members of these groups might also be prosecuted in other countries including those who faught the nazis.

These juvenile delinquents are a case in point.

Certainly this poorly written film fails to achieve the goal of making them sympathetic. One finds oneself unimpressed. All I could think of was how much it reminded me of the awful propoganda pics of the war. The story is bogus. The plot pathetic. The characters are hardly interesting. The ending laughable in its shere propoganda pose like the flag waving of so many bad propoganda films I so loath.

Other than the costumes, this flick has nothing to offer.
