Fun and light action??
The purpose of the story and the imaginative visuals are here for what could've been
an excellent animated "movie". The execution of it is not. 100 minutes is simply too
short to tell "Kaitei Gunkan" written by Shunno Oshikawa. The audience and book
deserve much better.
When some of the same "action" sequences are repeated, and then repeated, it sure
looks like they ran out of money. When the characters are more like caricatures than
anything else, it also looks like they needed more screen time so the viewer could
get to know who and what they are about. But that also raises costs.
The female character name of "Avatar" struck me as peculiar so I found it:
"A manifestation of a diety or released soul in bodily form on earth, an incarnate
divine teacher" And Its origins are from Sanskrit for 'descent', 'down'
Avatar, who came from beneath the earth's surface, vocalizes the justification for
the destrucion of mankind here. Ann, or Annette who also hails from beneath
serves as counterpoint to this dismal view.
I have no idea how this could be considered "fun and light action anime".
One early scene depicts a man running for his life, he falls to his knees as his
skin bubbles and then blood spurts everywhere. Ok,Ok I get it.The action was his
running and since he exploded, he's a lot lighter now.
Kidding aside, I have to go look for the original source of all this "fun and light
action" now. It just has to be better done than this. It has to.
Audio is Japanese stereo, it says english is in 5.1, but I only listened to the Japanese
version. On the disc are previews for: Sakura Wars, Robotech, Martian Successor
Nadesico, NGE Platinum Edition & 2 live action titles - Farscape and Gunhed
It's like an overnight fling...
Hey, for $7 (at Fry's), I thought this was a bangin' deal. I'm not gonna repeat what the synopsis said but I think this is something cool enough for a teenager or an adult action buff to appreciate. Yeah, the story would toss out factoids left and right and if you're not into all that jumping around trying to puzzle pieces together then this movie would just turn you off near the end. BUT, for $7, ya can't beat it with my granny's whip.
