A BURLESQUE ON VIOLENCE AND CRIME/ HILARIOUS *****
This very entertaining,independent humourous action film could have been the suprise hit of the Summer of 2003 if any of the major studios had the cojones to put it in 3,000 theaters nationwide!
The plot revolves around the humorous misadventures of a hapless valet (Dale Paris) and a dangerous blonde(Beautiful and Sexy Angel Boris), co-starring a cast of colorful oddball chracters- Pepo and His Gang - Dogbreath (Bob Deacon a regular on the new hit TV series "Karen Cisco" = Achmed The Convenience Store Clerk = Skinnyman = Mr.Lovaglio (played by Mr. Schnozzercam himself "WIllie Blanco") = The Scorpian = and a 1971 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, ( which is currently for sale and advertised at the end of the credits ). One of the best directorial debuts by director Edwardo Carrillo since Robert Rodriguez's "El Mariachi". A brilliantly humorous performance by Tony Pachecho, as the lead Latin Gangster " Pepo Duran ", and his three Marx Brotherish cohorts. Has the potential to become a "Cult Classic". Some cool extras check out "Behind The Blonde" on the DVD. The more times you watch this film the better it gets. A gem in the ruff. A very unconventional Love Story. Highly reccommended. Colorful, Action filled, humourous,offbeat and very entertaining. Check It Out !
An Entertaining Angel Boris Movie
Compared to many big budget efforts that sometimes fall flat, this is an original and mostly entertaining movie made on a low budget. The movie features and stars - for all practical purposes - Angel Boris, 1996 Playmate and former 90210 actress. She is one of the few Playmates - and I think she is in a minority in that group - that avoided the breast implants and actually has some talent other than just looking good. It is, one suspects, a movie that is supposed to be a transition for Boris into the realm of serious or at least decent acting roles. It is not a porno movie by any stretch, so do not buy it for that. She is more like a young Bette Davis bursting with raw energy. The story is about a suicidal girl living in South Beach, Miami, and her rough boy friends, especially a guy she meets when she accidentally walks in front of an older Cadillac that he is parking. He is a valet attendant at a strip club. It is something between drama and comedy - a sort of "disorganized crime" movie. It is not a dark movie and has many funny moments.
This movie is almost perfect for the young and energetic Boris and she shows many acting skills; the part is about a manic depressive so she has an opportunity to play a range of emotions; one would think that the movie would bode well for her future. She has one great scene where after dancing around a mini-mart to her favourite tune that is being played as background music, she pulls a gun on a middle eastern or Indian looking mini-mart owner who refuses to make change on a $50. bill: she just snaps. That is an entertaining and a memorable movie scene. The rest of the cast members were less than great and I thought that the first 15 minutes of the movie - which takes place in a strip club and involves a gang of criminals was simply bad, boring, and lacking in merit; anyone looking at the first 15 minutes might have stopped viewing.
The general fit and finish of the movie is obviously low budget but the directing by Edwardo Carrillo seemed solid. It is made on location - one assumes around Miami or in LA. The DVD is generally well done and has a good extra on the movie production - cuts and films of various scenes being made - mostly funny - not too deep.
So, the first 15 minutes is terrible, otherwise it is mostly an entertaining effort and a good acting effort by Boris. The first 15 minutes cancels out any hope of more than 4 stars, but I look forward to another movie where she might get a good part to develop her talents.
