Star Wars is dead to me FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
George Lucas has a nasty habit of making "improvements" because he can, not because they'll add anything to the story.

1. We see the rump of a big beast blocking the camera at Mos Eisley station.
2. Luke screams when he jumps into the shaft at Cloud City to escape Vader. To make matters worse, it's not a Mark Hamill scream, it's a recycled Emperor scream from when HE is thrown down the shaft in RotJ!
3. Stock footage of RotJ Death Star scenes slipped in to ESB. Like we weren't going to notice?
4. The worst offense of all, and the one thing that has made me put the long-awaited DVD box set away and stick to my old, battered VHS copies: Hayden Christiansen has been "gumped" in at the end when Luke sees Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Yoda standing together during the Ewok celebration. How in the heck does it make sense for HAYDEN CHRISTIANSEN to be in that scene? Of all the pointless, stupid, idiotic things for GL to do, that ruins the whole thing for me. Why gump Hayden Christiansen in there and not Ewan MacGregor? Because it was Alec Guiness, that's why, or he'd probably have done the same thing. Mr. Lucas: step away....from the edit button!

Just a thought FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
I have to say that I find it amusing when people equate George Lucas's fixing shots that he never figured out how to do for the original trilogy (erasing the orange smudge that hid the wheels under Luke's speeder, replacing Jabba the Hutt with a digital character so he matched with Return of the Jedi, etc.) with sacrificing story telling for visual effects.

The best gets better. Holy Trilogy is Crown Jewel on DVD. FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
The "Holy Trilogy", as it affectionately refirred to as among most die-hard SW fans, has never looked or sounded better than on this (finally they f-ing released the thing) DVD 4-Disc set. The sound in particular makes these movies stand out even more on the DVD format.

Among the 3 films, the original (Episode IV: A New Hope) is the one that stands out the most when watched on DVD. I say this in regards to the fact of how much better it looks than even a few years ago when they re-released the trilogy on yet another VHS set prior to "Attack of the Clones". The picture is crisp, and as stated the sound is spectacular. I must admit, that to begin with, I've always had a strong fondness for the original film. I often argue among fellow friends/fans of its place among the other films. Many disregard it, which is a mistake.

I will admit, that "Empire Strikes Back" is the GEM in this trilogy, and somehow Lucas made it better on the DVD by adding Ian Mcdiarmid as the emperor and a few more lines of dialogue to wrap things up and tie into things during the prequels. Sure on the surface this can be construed as Lucas hiding his mistakes, and yes I'd agree that he should've done it during the prequels, but the change is good. Other than that, ESB just excells in everyway and the DVD picture quality pays off the biggest during the films climax, when Luke and Vader fight in the chamber. Its never looked so good. Also the commentary is the best to ESB, particulary when Yoda sends Luke into the Cave as Lucas explains alot about things during that part.

"Return of the Jedi", always the weakest of the original trilogy in my opinion, also looks crisper and nicer and has the same bells and whistles as with the other 2 films. Jedi has had a tweak to its end (again) with another great change, adding Hayden Christinson as Anakin's spirit to the end frames. I think its great and serves to tie all 6 films together well.

Aside from the films, there are great featurettes and all the artwork and behind the scenes pictures are a joy to thumb threw on a rainy day. But the stand out of the entire set, to me, is the film-length documentary "Empire of Dreams". It is truely awe-inspiring and amazing to watch.

They've always been great films, and have inspired the imaginations of countless people in the past 28-odd years or so. I was born in 1980, and missed out on all the frenzy, but grew up with several copies (wore them out all the time) in the house. These movies have been a constant in the lives of all in my generation, and the ones before it. Now that all 6 are completed and this amazing 13-hour tale is complete, we all have one amazing story to watch over and over.

And we all owe Mr. Lucas a strong and heartfelt thank you.
