Spartacus Mini Series Reviews
Entertaining, but historical flaws
This was a surprisingly enjoyable movie. Actually enjoyed this version more than the original. The movie does attempt to cover many of the main events from Spartacus' 2 years of freedom such as the destruction of the Rome Cohorts and escape from the boot of Italy, and the decimation of the Roman Legions for fleeing from Spartacus.
The acting and characters are also very engaging. The gladiator fight scenes and bonding between them is done very well. One gets a better reason why the African warrior decided to spare Spartacus and attack the Romans instead when compared to the 1960's version.
The movie would have been more accurate if it attempted to provide the historical dates of each event or listed how many months elapsed between each scene. Overall it is a solid movie but with obvious historical flaws if one does some research and reading.
Better Than The Old Film Could Have Ever Been
Ever notice how you always think back at some older movies and imagine them great, but then when you watch it again you begin to think what happened to that classic story? When Spartacus came out in the 1960s, it was applauded by many audiences and won many academy awards. However, if you look at that film and the recent remake, you can hardly compare the two. The 2004 version is much better. Full of action and drama, the Spartacus TV Series is very realistic and does a fine job in portraying Ancient Rome. I recomend that everyone should see it, for it is a fine piece of work.
