A delightful fairy tale for kids and adults alike FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Remember "Fractured Fairy Tales" on the old "Bullwinkle" TV show, where they warped such old standards as Sleeping Beauty? (FYI, the FFT version of that tale had a prince who suspiciously resembled Walt Disney decline to wake Sleeping Beauty and instead turn her castle into a tourist attraction called Sleeping Beauty-Land.) That spirit is very much alive and well in "Shrek," a computer-animated film about an ogre who agrees to rescue a princess when an evil (and vertically-challenged) prince exiles hordes of fairy-tale characters to his neck of the swamp.

Mike Myers is terrifically convincing as the gentle but tough Shrek with a light Scottish accent. John Lithgow is properly villainous as Lord Farquaad; Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, however, just doesn't sound as convincing as her co-stars. But it is Eddie Murphy who steals the show as the ever-talkative Donkey who accompanies Shrek on his quest.

"Shrek" is simply delicious, not only providing lots of fun for kids and adults alike (with the requisite burp and fart jokes that will delight kids and the young at heart) but also sending a very good message - just because someone else says you're ugly doesn't make it so.

Be scared, Disney. Be very very SCARED. FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
This movie has definitely proven that Disney is no longer the king on top of the animation film genre. The digital animation studio PDI and Dreamworks have certainly earned that spot with "Shrek". In terms of quality, story, believable characters, humor, and the mind-blowing, eye-popping CG-animation, "Shrek" has surpassed Disney & Pixar a million times over. Just take a look at their latest release "Monsters Inc." Although "Monsters Inc." is not a bad film, my own kids still chose to watch "Shrek" over again after watching "Monsters Inc". And as an adult, if I had to make a choice between watching "Monsters Inc" or "Shrek" in the theater again, I'd honestly pick "Shrek". Maybe its the "magic" about it, but I just can't seem to get tired of watching it over again everytime my kids pop the dvd in the player. I just keep getting amazed by the animation and keep laughing at all the jokes over again. Believe me, the movie is THAT GOOD. As a final word, I can definitely say "Shrek" is next year's Oscar winner for best animated film. You just mark my words.

Fantastic movie! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy are hilarious in this fairy tale for both kids and adults alike. Like Disney sometimes does, Dreamworks throws in some adult barbs the kids won't understand but they'll love it anyway and so will you.

Shrek just wants peace and quiet, but soon finds his swamp overrun by a bunch of nasty disney characters (surprised they didn't get into a huge lawsuit considering all the Disney vs. Dreamworks flak). In order to clear out his homeland from these uninvited guests, Shrek sets off on what soon becomes an epic adventure rescuing a damsel in distress from a terrible (but also lonely) fire-breathing dragon. In the process he learns a lot about himself, friendship, and love. With quotes like "Snow White? She lives with seven men, but she's not easy", the bathroom humor and mild sexual innuendos will keep the kids giggling, but there's not enough to restrict their viewing. Besides, if you ever thought Eddie Murphy was a jackass, now you know.

One of the few cartoons I'd watch again.
