Scrooge Reviews

You. You were good for me... FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
My favorite of all the "Christmas Carols," with some wonderful embellishing touches that are crushingly heartbreaking, bittersweet, and terribly, terribly funny. A unique technique on the musical aspect, the songs do not bog down the story, as the whole conniption fit of a movie is swept along by the music. This version is comedic, probably the funniest of all versions, and then again it has the most touching magics. Who hasn't obsessed on a moment that you can go back to, and view, if not change -- a brief moment that changed your whole life. Scrooge is there, and we feel it, in our heart, deeply, as he shrieks at his younger self: "Say something! You FOOL!" only to see the love of his life disappear. Albert Finney is such an incredible talent that we are pained for him, but as we know, "these are but shadows of the past." It's a wonderful, wonderful transition, slow and sweet, from mean and grouchy miser, to precious old guardian angel, we get to see it happen, bit by bit. Also, I think the sweetest Tiny Tim, with a beautiful voice. Another heartfelt moment, panning through the graves and hearing a ghostly Tiny Tim trill his sweet song, to see Bob Cratchit kneeling by his son's new grave. There are so many breathtaking, magical moments like this. I think I saw this movie when I was about 12 or 13 years old, and its probably one of the key reasons I'm as messed up as I am! Not only is this my favorite Christmas movie, but one of my most favorite movies, as well, right up there with "Somewhere in Time" and "Amadeus."

My personal Christmas favorite. FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
Well...it's a movie boarderline on a flat out musical based on Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'.
Some liberties are taken, but for the most part I feel that the story has been enhanced more than anything.
There is no 'filler' in this movie, it flows like a river all the way to the end and when it get's there I'm filled with joy every time. What an excellent film.
Too many versions of this classic novel are dark and dreary. When Scrooge's heart is finally turned it's creepy...as if he's faking it. NOT THIS ONE. When Scrooge's heart is changed he -IS- a changed man. O YES!
For all you book snobs out there who can't let go of the book...don't. Flip back to page one and keep reading.
For everyone else, this one is not to be missed!!
