Distinctly average
Am I the only one who thinks that Al Pacino is an average actor and very overrated at that?
I found his acting and the film as a whole to be as tame as ditchwater.
The violent scenes were the only ones which served to stem the boredom for me, but being quite screamish I didn't enjoy them.
Overall I would say this film is too long and a better actor should have been cast in the lead role. Someone with charisma like Steve Guttenberg.
The Most Over-rated Movie of All Time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People must be warned. They need to be told the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth when it comes to reviews and purchasing items, especially when they are so undeserving of merit. Now, I am well aware that I am in the minority when saying this, but I must tell others so that they know that this movie is the MOST OVER-RATED AND HYPED UP film of all time! This movie is so long and close to 3 hours, and I can't for the life of me see what everyone likes in it. Why are people so fascinated? What's there to be fascinated about?! I just don't get it. I will never begin to ever get it. Now, there were a few scenes that were interesting like when Tony Montana got mad at his friend for marrying his sister and when he went home to his mother and sister only to have his mother reject him for his ruthless, low-class, and wayward ways. But, seriously, that's all there is to it. It's the truth with the saying that violence and sex sells......yes, indeed, it does, as evidence by this movie. I know people will get mad for me saying this, but I am just here to let other potential buyers know that this movie is very much over-rated, so don't doubt me just because I am in the minority.
Well worth the wait, and worth every penny!
A few years ago (in the late 1990s), Universal released a preliminary version of Scarface on DVD. That version was a disaster. Only a limited number of discs were released, the digital picture quality was horrible (looking no better than VHS picture quality), and the only extra included was a theatrical trailer.
On the 20th anniversary of Scarface, Universal re-released Scarface and this time they got it right. Scarface is quite possible the biggest and greatest cult classic of all time, as the movie did mediocre at the box office in 1983, but its legendary status grows bigger with each passing year.
The Scarface DVD has an absolutely beautiful and vibrant, crystal-clear picture quality which enhances the film's excellent cinematography. The sun-drenched beaches of Miami and the tropical flavor of the scenery really stand out on the DVD. The soundtrack, having been digitally remastered, is also outstanding. Be sure to connect your TV to a surround-sound system for a really great Scarface experience.
Scarface actually comes with two discs. Disc 1 contains the film. The second disc contains the extras, such as a documentary on the making of the movie, cast commentary and behind-the-scenes interviews, and director's commentary regarding the re-making of Scarface. You may not be aware of it, but Scarface was originally released in the 1930s. The original featured Al Capone, not Tony Montana, and the drug in question was alcohol instead of cocaine.
There is no under-estimating the influence and significance of the 1983 Scarface in terms of American popular culture. Hip hop music often pays homage to Scarface, and even the Grand Theft Auto video game series has been highly influenced in its content and soundtrack from this classic. Scarface is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen.
