a thrilling flick FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
Ben Affleck is Rudy, a man just released from prison after 6 years for grand theft auto. Right before he leaves, his best friend James is killed in abrawl. He goes to tell James' new girlfriend Ashley, whom James met via pen-pal relationship and she has never seen him. Ashley comes in the form of Charlize Theron, so Rudy tells her he is James and they start having sex.

Thus Rudy's lust has him embroiled in a theft plot by Ashley's brother (Gary Sinise) and thus ensues a crime laden with all that is tacky about Christmas.

The movie is gruesome at times, but it is entertaining. Theron does well as the both good and evil Ashley. And of course Affleck's character manages to have no psychological scars from his time in prison -- so that's annoying, but then, it's a Ben Affleck film, it comes with the territory.

WHERE'S RUDOLPH WHEN YOU NEED HIM? FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
What can you say about a movie that features former MOD SQUAD cop Clarence Williams III and Oscar-winning composer Isaac Hayes? Not to mention a great scene where prisoners find a little "surprise" in their Christmas jello! Wow!

John Frankenheimer, the brilliant director who gave us the unforgettable "Manchurian Candidate" has brought us "Reindeer Games." It is quite an unusual departure in some ways for Mr. Frankenheimer, but it still bears his undeniably sharp sense of action and suspense.

The story has been rehashed by many other reviewers, so I'll spare any more. I do believe that it is an entertaining film, although certainly not in the league of "Manchurian." However, suspend disbelief, and get caught up in the sizzling plot and twists. Ben Affleck is a likeable, if not believable, hero, and I'm really happy about how he ends up. Charlize Theron is delightfully wicked in her role as the sweet and innocent (hah!) Ashley. Gary Sinise is effectively slimy as the villain, but if he goes overboard, it does help you hate him even more. Also good in a minor role is Dennis Farina as the owner of a Michigan Indian casino, who wants to go back to Las Vegas.

All in all, a tidy little thriller that got unfairly blasted by critics. Take it for what it is --- great escapism for a wintry night. Oh, yes---the use of Etta James' great "At Last" in the movie soundtrack is commendable.

Reindeer Games, was an interesting thriller. Ehren Kruger
wrote it, he wrote Arlington Road, and was attending Georgetown Day School. For a teenager, those two films where actually well written. Director John Frankenheimer did a fine job directing this film, but unfortunately he passed away. The Director's cut is thrilling and boy is it fun to watch.
Ben Affleck plays Rudy Duncan, who was recently released from prison, his lover or pen pal Ashely is desperatly awaiting his arrival, played by gorgeous Charlize Theoron. Soon, Ashley's brother, amazing Gary Sinise, needs Affleck's character.
Originally, they had planned a heist that would take plan in a casino or actually Affleck's prison mate, did. His prison mate was murdered, while in prison or so I thought. From here we get loud, chaotic pointless violence, that some would find highly entertaining. I think that the performances were great and so was the death-defying action. I enjoyed the film very much. Reindeer Games is rated R for Strong Violence, Language and Sexuality, so possibly not the best choice for young children. The violence is quite intense and strong from loud gunplay to fistfights. The language, well now a days many films contain excessive, needless language. And the sexuality, some what explicit. So, parents watch this one with your kids, probably a very wise and obvious decision to make. Trust me, the director's cut is a lot better than the original version, but maybe not for young children. See Reindeer Games, a good suspense thriller. Now available to own on Video and DVD! GET IT!
