Pushing Hands Reviews
I loved this bittersweet compelling movie.
Such a beautifully written script - that I found myself relating to many aspects of this movie (ie: dealing with middle age, being an asian in America, also being a tai-chi enthusiast). This movie appealed to me so much that I can watch this several times over.
Ang Lee did a fantastic job of showing the different perspectives of each character in this Asian/American family (a traditional Chinese Father, his son and American daughter-in-law, and one adorable little grandson - living in one small home).
This is the basis of the movie and done so well, without confusion. It was spoken in both English and Chinese (the DVD version I have has subtitles).
Perhaps what was most endearing to me about this movie is that it in some way reminded me of my own father as well as myself as I approach middle age.
Also, if you have some interest in chinese martial arts, you'll definitely love the references and depiction of the graceful martial art of Tai-Chi.
Tai Chi
Don't fall into the trap of thinking all Tai Chi masters are enlightened beings. I have met a fair few masters with stubborn ego's in my time! wonderful film.
