Most excellent movie!
Since I first saw this movie, I have watched it many more times. Its length is a bit daunting at first, but it is so well worth the time! I loved the cast, the script, and just everything about it! It's a very pleasing way to spend an afternoon/evening. I highly recommend this movie.
Something I always desire for
I couldn't agree more with the previous reviewer regarding the cast and acting of this miniseries (think about servants acting!) And I especially want to mention the marvelous job of Alison Steadman as Mrs Bennet. Never for a second had I felt bored when she's on the screen. With Steadman's performance, I even wouldn't call Mrs Bennet a stupid woman, for she has the most unexpected, creative entertaining talent and is full of life. I confess that I used to pick up one volume of PnP VHS from a local library several years ago and was frightened to see Elizabeth in such a mature figure, so I returned it. It turned out to be a big mistake and I'm so glad I give it a second try with this DVD set! Jennifer Ehle has a unique beauty, intelligent, understanding, warm and colorful, even refreshing from some angles. I only hope they shot those angles more! As a small consequence of watching PnP, I later on found Colin Firth, who played Mr. Darcy in PnP, also stared in the 2003 film "Love Actually". Having seen the film once but not very impressed, I couldn't remember which part he played, so I found that DVD out to watch again. Guess what? I found myself very much in love with it immediately! So my conclusion is that over the years, Hollywood is gradually, but successfully, poisoning my taste and ruining my appetite for quality comedy!
Absolutely delightful
I read the book in a few short days, staying up until the wee hours one morning to finish it because I was unable to put it down. I immediately went out and purchased the movie to quench my newfound obsession for Jane Austen's amazing story :) The movie is delightful. It was pure joy to see Austen's witty words spoken with all the marvelous acting and period dress and scenery. Colin Firth, now famous as Mr. Darcy, plays the role superbly with subtlety and depth. Jennifer Ehle as the "headstrong" Eliza Bennet is also delightful, and it is fun to pour over their scenes together and witness the nuances of emotion. Everyone involved has done justice to Jane Austen's novel - making the movie almost as much fun to treasure as the book!
