one of the best war movies of last 30 years
this comes with the caveat that I am not a veteran so cannot speak to the movie's authenticity from that perspective. having said that this "coming of age" story about a volunteer grunt on his first tour is inspiring, moving and memorable in its exploration of two poles. charlie sheen was never better (except maybe wall street) and tom berenger and willem dafoe also give two of their best performances. A Stone classic.
Good but. some parts are laughable .Again
The movie goes well until we get silly parts in it. I won't spoil the movie. When Willem Defaoe goes running off in the woods screaming and chasing the viet cong is just plain stupid. Then we have half the viet army running behind him. That was really stupid. But not as stupid as the plot of Saving Private Ryan. The ending when Sheen wakes up after the battle. I have to wonder about that. But a good movie for the most part.
Oliver Stone's best................
I am a vet, after seeing this I can't sleep, have flashbacks, dirty my britches often, and need to be sedated, thank you Oliver Stone.
