Phantom Quest Corp - Perfect Collection Reviews

Kozo and Ayaka (Quite the Pair) FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
A general interest in the works of Madhouse Productions (Animation for Ninja Scroll,
Trigun, and several of Satoshi Kon's film's) brought me to "Phantom Quest Corp."
And, for the price, this was an easy pick.

Ayaka Kisaragi's taxi ride scene is not to be missed. The last episode is my favorite
though, with Kisaragi San, and her "lipstick". The music during this scene just
belongs right there. Of course the finale had me laughing out loud. Please, if you're
able, this is even better frame by frame. Too funny.

It took several tries and some head scratching, but I've finally seen the digital
"omake" or extra on it. Thanks to AnimeOnDvd for the tip. There's an episode "00"
on this rather brief, lightweight, yet fun OVA disc. It's 22 minutes long, the first half
is sparsely animated and includes some still drawings, Ayaka does the narration.
The second half is "live" with the Japanese Seiyu (voice actors) Rika Matsumoto-
as Ayaka, Kotono Matsuishi-Nanami, and Koichi Yamadera-Kozo, in the recording
studio together. There's also some brief "horror" story telling afterwards (Rika's
"Occult Talk Corner") and to me, anyway, a rather odd Muda Oda appears.

The title of this may sound dumb, the cover picture may make this appear to be a
big dud, and no, of course this isn't critically acclaimed by any stretch. Not every
title is, or will ever come close to being that. But I'll still find much of this enjoyable
for the characters Kozo and Ayaka.

Can Ayaka keep the company afloat? FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
Phantom Quest Corporation is a small collection (four episodes to be exact) of various supernatural adventures. Each episode can stand on its own, but viewing them all will provide more depth to the characters and the series.

Phantom Quest Corporation's overall concept is similar to Ghostbusters, and the treatment of the situations is very light despite the dark theme. It has its funny moments (there aren't many though), mainly because of the lead character Ayaka's quirky personality. She wants the business to succeed, but she can't stop her impulsive shopping urges, or her passion for drinking and karaoke. Ayaka and the gang also have some very interesting gadgets and abilities.

The art and animation are basically okay, but the way the characters are drawn is inconsistent at times. Sometimes the faces look pudgy, sometimes they look fine. The English dubbing is quite nicely done. I also love the music video introduction, and it was actually what made me buy the video. All in all this is an average title -- it's nothing really special but it's not bad either.
