Unfair and Unwarranted Criticism
Can Anybody explain WHY this film is criticized left and right for the same thing TITANIC is guilty of?
Let me explain. Both Pearl Harbor and TITANIC are films based on real life events, with a "love story" thrown in.
Critics argued that the love story between Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale and Josh Hartnett was "out of place in a movie about a historical subject like Pearl Harbor".
Once again, back in 1997 I don't recall ANYBODY saying this about the Leonardo Dicaprio/Kate Winslet story line in TITANIC.
The most important element about Pearl Harbor is the actual attack scene (That's why we are watching anyway, isn't it?) is spectacular and better than the one in TORA! TORA! TORA!.
I recently purchased the newly released "Special Edition" of TORA! TORA! TORA! so I feel qualified to make this judgment.
Anyway, I've only seen this film once, but I thought it was above average and didn't warrant the criticism that the top grossing film of all-time is also guilty of.
Movie was a complete joke. Too bad you can't rate in negatives numbers.
I barely stomached watching ten minutes of this movie. Who ever wrote it didn't know a damn thing about World War II history, the neutrality act, various performance of the World War II aircraft or nothing. I found it the biggest waste of time. Stupid me bought the movie and I turned it off and gave it to someone, I don't even remember who. What a waste of money and time and effort.
Rating for Director's Cut
I found the director's cut to be a huge improvment over the theatrical version. I mean by leaps and bounds.
