Once Upon a Time in China III Reviews
Less action, more cultural sentiment than the first two
After enjoying the first two, I couldn't wait to see this one. Jet Li and Rosamund Kwan are always adorable together. The lion fight is a beautiful Chinese tradition. The story has deep meaning and is loaded with heart. I pesonally prefer more martial arts, which is a big part of what Wong Fe Hong is legendary for. I also like colorful characters. The first "Once Upon.." has more of an even blend of action, culture, and humor, not to mention a slew of colorful characters.
They should've stopped at two.
Jet Li and Rosamund Kwan are always adorable together. However, I was disappointed at the lack of good fighting scenes. The Lion Dance, while beautiful, is too drawn out in this movie. There is one colorful character in the movie, Thunder Foot, but his action scenes are short and his flare mellows throughout the movie. The big climax scene is a Lion Dance, not a fight. Personally, I can't stand the "Foon" character in the second and third movies. He's all humor and no Kung Fu, unlike Yuen Biao as Foon in the first "Once Upon a Time in China". The first is by far the best for humor, top-notch asskickery, and an assortment of colorful characters.
