Secondary characters make it worthwhile FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
I like this movie mainly for it's supporting cast. From the slovenly roommate, to the earnest but bungling best friend, to the quirky sister, right down to the actor billed as the "annoying customer," they're all fantastically entertaining. Each person has thrown themselves into their respective roles and their energy practically leaps off the screen. Their dialogue is witty and their relationships with each other are heartfelt and real.

As for the leads...eh. Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts seem to be playing themselves and deliver neutral "where's my paycheck please" performances. Grant does have a certain amount of charm with his blundering, everyman persona, but Roberts is completely bland and unmemorable in her role. Additionally, the pair has very little chemistry and in a story based entirely around the concept of love overcoming all other barriers, that's a huge problem. The movie asks or an enormous suspension of belief, even for a romantic comedy and if the leads were better, the viewer would probably give it. As it is, I kept thinking "yeah, right" throughout.

The supporting cast steals the show, watch it for them.

Is it over yet? FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
I don't like this movie. It's draggish and boring. *yawn*

Plus how come she kissed him so sudden like that? That was stupid.

Unfabricated Chick Flick FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff.
I do agree with the reviews that say this is boring. It is boring in a way, but its value should come from the fact that its not totally fabricated and changed for the viewers' sake, but was rather bold of it to stand its ground and be the way it is.

Many of the so called non-boring more exciting films are really fabricated and exaggerated with extras that really bring it far away from what we should know as reality. This film, to me, was more reflecting over the boundaries of reality. Many other films add a bunch of stuff in order to draw viewers into it and give them settings and plots of occurences that flies far from what real life is about, something that doesn't happen as well in real life.

There are people that like fictional and then there are those that like non-fiction. It depends on how you view it, either you like a movie that has a bunch of totally exaggerated and made up stuff or the real life deal as this movie is.

Still, however, I thought this movie was a little boring, but interesting still to watch. As always, many things that can be done to make it more interesting, but I guess it is the way it is.

Nice day to all. This movie will either make you put on your night cap and bring out your little teddy bear or make you say "hmm..."
