Monty Python's The Meaning Of Life (Special Edition) Reviews

A Classic Comedy FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY!
I don't know about "DVD mastering" of this film which was criticized---I saw the VHS version. And, I don't know about people who can't laugh at "the Protestant vs. Catholic" incongruities---I suppose those people take their religion very seriously or are just "very serious" type of people. But, if you can see that "there is humor in everything" then you'd enjoy this CLASSIC COMEDY immensly! The film is not totally "suitable for children" because there is one "sex scene" in the film which I used to "fast forward" when any kids were present in the room while the film was on. So, it's an "adult film" I'd say. The good about the film is that you'll see one clever satire after another about many subjects that you might have believed were not humorous before seeing the film. And, it is an "intelligent funny film" ---it's not a farce or silly. You'll enjoy it---if you're not "too serious" that is! Email is gourmet72141@yahoo.co

Hard To Believe It's Monty Python FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! FULL SKULL BABY! empty skull, sniff. empty skull, sniff.
Usually I'd give a five star review to anything Monty Python has done, but this film didn't really strike a chord with me. The reason? Lots of sex, gore, and vomit. I usually like things that are more suitable for children, so there was a lot of stuff in this movie for me not to like.

Even so, I noticed an occassional laugh spackled about every here and there, like in the birth scene at the beginning where the idiotic administrator doesn't know what a birth is and the war scene where none of the British officers can believe a tiger exists in Africa.

Since the typical viewer is so used to laughing at the Python cast, even their more mediocre jokes tend to be enjoyable. In particular, I like the Christmas in Heaven scene where Graham dresses up as a Tom Jones type guy. He looks darn funny.

I would have given this film two stars because there were many scenes that were much more offensive than funny, but I enjoyed the philosophical ideas scattered throughout, and they made the movie much more watchable. Plus I had fun listening to the goofy astronomy song.

Good for a rental, but only if you're a big Monty Python fan who's capable of putting up with highly offensive content. I just can't believe Monty Python made something this mediocre on the hilarity scale.
