overrated-2.5 stars
When i was reading the review down below about this film being better than 'The Matrix', the soda I was drinking sprayed from my mouth onto my screen as I was paralyzed by laughter. Minority Report is a boring, complicated, and almost cliched story. While I feel the premise is good, I feel too much of the movie was talk, and they did not show enough of the futuristic Washington D.C. The parts they did show didn't look futuristic enough and looked too much like modern-day. And the story, is no more than a sci-fi remake of 'The Fugitive', and not a very good one, at that. While this movie has it's moments, I feel it's not mind-numbingly violent enough, like the Matrix was, and Tom Cruise is an awful choice for the role. Why must Hollywood insist on casting wimpy actors like Cruise instead of somebody with backbone, like Hugh Jackman.
More mind blowing than 'The Matrix'!
I really loved this film, at the beginning I didn't expect much, I knew it was over 2 hours and if I didn't enjoy it I'd be dragging along! At the beginning you see the movie is set in the future, about 50 years from now, that didn't really appeal to me much, but as the movie went on, the more and more I was into it and blown away!
In the future they have a 'PreCrime' unit where they stop murders from before they even happen. No murders in Washington D.C. in over 6 years! Not bad, huh? Though it's not that simple. There is so much more to it. It's so explicit, twisted and a wonderful mind blowing Sci-Fi invention as much so as 'The Matrix'!
I managed to predict something in the film, and it came true, then it was blown away right before the guy blew himself away!... You'll have to watch to understand!
I don't want to go through explaining it, its not a simple machine that tells you who is going to commit a crime real soon in the future, its extremely far from it, like they say, it will blow your mind! You will see and understand it all for yourself, and if it doesn't hit you the first time, watch it again.
The main reason I write a review is if I'd really recommend a film or not. This is one of the best films ever made, so I'd definitely recommend it. Like many movies, this is the one you definitely enjoy best the first time round, so pay attention at all times, stay focused, if you miss something quickly go back, because the first time round Minority Report will BLOW YOU AWAY!
PS: If you loved and understood 'The Matrix', then you'll love this movie.
Tom Cruise' best work.
Seriously, it's absolutely mind blowing. Don't wait. Go see it.
Superb SCI-FI with Tom Cruise at the helm!
Minority report is based off a short story by famous Sci-Fi author Philip K. Dick (who also wrote paycheck, a movie starring Ben Affleck)
This science fiction-thriller reflects the writer's familiar preoccupation with themes of concealed identity and mind control. Tom Cruise stars as John Anderton, a Washington, D.C. detective in the year 2054. Anderton works for "Precrime," a special unit of the police department that arrests murderers before they have committed the actual crime. Precrime bases its work on the visions of three psychics or "precogs" whose prophecies of future events are never in error.
When Anderton discovers that he has been identified as the future killer of a man he's never met, he is forced to become a fugitive from his own colleagues as he tries to uncover the mystery of the victim-to-be's identity. When he kidnaps Agatha (Samantha Morton), one of the precogs, he begins to formulate a theory about a possible frame-up from within his own department.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, who hired a team of futurists to devise the film's numerous technologically advanced gadgets.
