Perfect movie for all ages, even the littlest moviegoer
After watching Nemo, Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and so on and so on...and having to skip inappropriate parts..."Mary Poppins" is perfectly fine start to finish. (The worst part is just a grumpy Dad, that's it.) The classic songs are fun for kids to sing along with...and Julie Andrews is delightful, Dick Van Dyke funny, children precious. Highly recommend this DVD for all ages.
The classic All-Time Fairy Tale
I remember watching Mary Poppins as a kid, and it brings back some fond memories of imagination and feel-good music.
As I watch this show again, I can't help but think, "How come Disney, and Hollyood can't produce movies like this anymore?"
You know, movies with morales (but not too "in your face"), action, but not the violent kind, and just overall good character-growth and acting?
Everytime I see Julie Andrews now, I feel so sad, because of the loss of her ability to sing. She has such a beautiful voice, which is on record for all time. New aspiring singers should look to this classy singer, Julie Andrews to learn how to sing!
And as someone else pointed out--Dick Van Dyke's amazing skills of dancing and acting as Bert and Senior Dawes STILL takes my breath away. The "Step-in-Time" sequence and the dancing with the animated penguins....
The magic involved is imaginative for its time. The power of human suggestion with Mary's singing is quite....what's the word? "supercalisticexpialidociuos". Her ability to talk to animals, making animated objects move. It's well before the time of fantasy or magic in books or theaters these days :)!
Every kid in every generation should all be too lucky to see this. This is truly a treasure of a film, and a great family fun movie.
