IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS!
As Westerns go, this is the real deal, right up there with Rio-Bravo, Dances with Wolves, Unforgiven, Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, the pace is enjoyable, good character studies, fabulous writing and directing, and although all the actors put in a brilliant effort, it is Robert Duval that is the mortar that holds it all together, Tommy Lee's effort is just a nick behind Duvals. This is a harrowing story, the real West without all the Deadwood vulgarity and profanity. In fact, up until I saw this miniseries, I had never much been into Westerns, this changed my mind completely. Get it, even if you are not into Westerns, Get it, buy it, and enjoy watching it again and again. The only drawback is that it is only 4:3 aspect and sterio sound. Honestly, somebody should do something about this, it should come in 16.9 with surround sound, a classic like this deserves the very best that Hollywood can come up with. To Tommy Lee and Robert Duval and the rest of the gang, thanks pardner!

LONESOME DOVE
I have viewed Lonesome Dove plus all the Lonesome Dove series~~~my interest never waivered for even a minute as I was totally caught up in the story telling~~~~I will treasure the complete set and am sure that on a snowy day or a rainy day I will be caught up in all the wonder of the west~~~

Excellent American Epic
I just want to add mine to the rest of the favorable reviews for this DVD. The story is absolutely beautiful as is the writing. The characterization is great and Duvall's acting is superb. What an artisan ! The only complaints I have are that the film is too grainy at times causing the transfer to suffer and the original special effects are just not good. But these factors would not cause me to give it less than five stars because the movie is just so darn good. Make time and watch this one.
